Sorry, I'll put this in the right spot..... didn't mean to tag onto the end
of the other thread. R Hello gorgeous people, Just wondering....... seeing I'm considering ordering a Pizza for tea. If you *had* to order a Pizza & have it delivered............ who would you choose? ie, which companies do the best pizzas? eg, I go with Pizza Hut. I like their thin/crispy bases. You might go Dominoes or some other. Raelene xxx --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Pizza Hut and Pizza Inn chains are too greasy for my tastes.
Dominoes does a good job and used to be my favorite but, since I moved to Arizona I have been happiest with Papa John's and their great crusts and tasty tomato sauce. If I'm drinking beer and watching a sporting event, I usually get extra cheese on whatever style I get to make a little more hearty and substantial. But, for a "tea" I'm think a more sedate ladies type gathering and would go with something a little lighter. As a totally off the wall thought, have you considered getting some of the better frozen pizzas? DiGierno (sp?) and Freschetta make a really good warm it up at home pizza and are very easy to make. The all veggie styles don't really work too well but, the Supreme's and Pepperoni's are really good. I would strongly suggest looking into a local pizza shop or a small regional chain. The national brands are safe choices, but they have lost much of their spirit. If you are in a large metropolitan area, seek out those shops that would deliver to you. Failing that, I think the only national chain I've liked in the past ten years was Pizza Hut. I just don't think of it as pizza, really. if you have a donatos in your area - get the thin..you will NEVER order a
pizza hut thin after that.. -- Laura "Raelene" > wrote in message u... > Sorry, I'll put this in the right spot..... didn't mean to tag onto the end > of the other thread. > > R > > > > Hello gorgeous people, > > Just wondering....... seeing I'm considering ordering a Pizza for tea. > > If you *had* to order a Pizza & have it delivered............ who would you > choose? ie, which companies do the best pizzas? > > eg, I go with Pizza Hut. Since the quality of the pizza is all about the quality of the ingredients, any chain that attempts to cut costs will generally make worse pizza. That's a strong pressure to make so-so product. So start by looking at the local places. If your area is famous for good pizza, go with one founded by a local (this avoids the religious debate over NYC vs Boston vs Hartford vs Chicago etc because I'm from Buffalo and Niagra Falls so clearly the pizza from Buffalo/Niagra Falls wins the religious war. For me). If your area is NOT famous for good pizza, look for a place founded by someone who moved from a place famous for pizza. Most of the east coast counts as famous for pizza ;^) Example. For years I lived in Pasadena, Los Angeles area. My two favorite places for most of those years were founded by families that moved there from Buffalo and Pittsburg. Then one day I had pizza at a random "Mom and Pop shop" place. I converted immediately. These folks got the best ingredients, paid close attention to the details of every pie, got it right essentially every time, and decorated their place not at all. |

Good strategy to drive past the chains. The best pizza in my area by far is a mom & pop joint. There are hand lettered signs on the wall, a prep area and ovens. Hardly anyone orders a deviation from the basic pie because it is so good it doesn't need a pile of stuff on it. |

I agree completely. The local chains are always better than the national ones. Here in Cincinnati we have a local pizza/italian chain called LaRosa's that has one number that you call, from anywhere in town, to take your order. From your address, the LaRosa's operators send the order to the store that is closest to your house, and they have a couple dozen of them all around town. It is a much better quality pizza than anything I can get from one of the major chains. They make very good meatballs also, which they sell in supermarkets here in Cincinnati. Although they deliver, I can place the order and the pizza is ready by the time I get to the neighborhood store to pick it up. I'm sort of neutral on the meatballs. They need more seasoning in my opinion, although they aren't bad. |

I have no clue about the pizza places in your neighborhood. If you are going to order from Pizza Hut, you might as well save some money and serve some frozen pizza. |

Sorry to say I don't think we have much by way of mom and pop pizza joints in Sacramento. I can think of one in downtown Sac, Sidewalk Pizza, haven't been there in years because I make my own pie :-) But in my area of town, there must be 15 crap pizza chain restaurants in about a 2 square mile area!! I'll just keep making my own pizza. I'm a lousy bread baker, but I can get a decent pizza dough in the ABM. I make my own sauce, and since my favorite pizza is pepperoni, don't need much by way of toppings other than some nice mozz and parm reg, and the meat. Lisette (FINALLY home from Portland!) |
