Default New recipe organizer for Mac users: MacGourmet

Greetings,

I just wanted to let any Mac users here know about MacGourmet for OS
X.

MacGourmet is an application that lets Mac users create and edit
recipes, wine notes and cooking notes, easily browse their
collections, build their own custom lists, import their MasterCook,
MasterCook Mac and Meal-Master recipes, and publish their favorite
recipes and notes to their .Mac accounts for others to see and share,
all in a way that is familiar and intuitive. MacGourmet also makes it
very easy to "clip" recipes from web sites, and import them into their
recipe boxes.

MacGourmet 1.0 for Mac OS X is available for download as a free demo
that can be used 20 times before expiring. During each session, all
features are available to the user, with limits only on the number of
times each feature can be used during a session. Registrations can be
purchased for $24.95 on-line at
http://store.esellerate.net/advenio/macgourmet, or by using the
built-in purchasing module.

MacGourmet is available for download at the Advenio web site:
http://www.advenio.com/macgourmet/download.html.

You might also want to check out MacGourmet.com. MacGourmet.com is a
website for people who love to cook, love great wines, and who also
maybe happen to love Apple Macintosh computers. At MacGourmet.com you
will find recipes, cooking hints and gadget reviews, as well as
information related to MacGourmet.

Thanks,

-- Michael

Barb, Barb, Barb... time to move on! I've been using Macs since OS 5
(System Software 5). OS X is worth it.

I know, I know. . . . OS X scares me. Maybe I read too many computer
newsgroups -- User Permissions, Libraries, all new terms. Too scary.
When I do, there'll be heel marks at the door. . . .

You never see 99.9% of the tech stuff. I daresay you'll never have to
deal with a Library, and just run Disk Utility once a month, to let it
repair permissions on its own. That's it. Otherwise, it's the Mac OS,
albeit with some twists.

See, it's the twists that put me off. I'm a chickenshit at heart --
haven't you figured that out yet? And it's getting worse as I get
older. Chris (son) and I have already discussed that. He's noticed it,
too.

Good Lord, Barb, if you switched to a PC you'd really be in a jam! :-)

The twists are minor ones. I was suspicious of OS X before using it,
but... I had to boot up my old Mac a little while back, and OS 9 seemed
cumbersome in comparison.

My parents are utterly incapable of using computers, despite repeated
instruction, so count yourself way ahead.

Yuk, yuk, and yuck!

No intention of become a Winhose user, Wayne. I'm a Macintosh loyalist
and proud of it.

Me too.

I have been a bleeding-edge Windows user (from V 1) and a long-time
software developer for it.

But, at home, I no longer use Windows at all.

I use Mac OS X exclusively on three computers. It's a real operating
system, not a cobbled-up barnacle-ridden throwback.

Fixin' to smoke a butt. It will be good after a time with lump and some
cherry-wood chips. A little rub of brown sugar, chipotle/adobo, salt,
black pepper, canola oil. I only have a Weber kettle, so it'll be
indirect heat and some infrequent peeking until it's ready.

I'm not sure OS X even requires that level of maintenance to run well,
though it helps. Pre-OS X, I was OK with OS 9. Now, going back to it,
I can't believe how clunky and inelegant it feels.

As a developer, OS X is a joy to work with, especially compared to OS
9. Cocoa, which is what MacGourmet was developed with, is just about
as perfect a developer library as you'll find. There are a lot of
things done in MacGourmet that just wouldn't as easy, or even possible
in OS 9, which is why there is no OS 9 version. Not to mention, Steve
Jobs wants OS 9 dead, and Apple is all about getting their developers
to do Mac OS X only apps.

Just my follow-up $.02.
