When I was in the Philippines a few years back, I used to indulge in
something the Filiponos called a "bananaque". This was a banana on a stick, coated in a crisp caramel sugar glaze, with perhaps some other flavorings. I have tried to find a recipe, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. |

I thought this sounded delicous, so I went looking for a recipe. I discovered
that if I entered "banana que" (two words) instead of banaque, I got several hits. (You can restrict Google results to English only, or not.) Here's one, is this recipe similar? http://cooking.houseonahill.net/reci...05/000174.html -Jen Half the people you know are below average. -Steven Wright |

This could be it. I recall being told that they were fried, so that part
fits. I don't recall a batter coating, but I could be mistaken, since it's been a couple of years. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks. It is actually lumpia (Filipino eggroll) wrapper and deep fried. Banana Que is nothing but Saba banana rolled in brown sugar then deep fried in vegetable oil. I believe the closest to Saba you can get here in California are those fat Mexican bananas or perhaps plantains. Even if you just use regular bananas, you can't go wrong with warm crispy sugar coated bananas ![]() Alan |
