If you take or are taking Vioxx
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J., Sept. 30, 2004 - Merck &. Co., Inc. today announced a voluntary worldwide withdrawal of VIOXX® (rofecoxib), its arthritis and acute pain medication. The company's decision, which is effective immediately, is based on new, three-year data from a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, the APPROVe (Adenomatous Polyp Prevention on VIOXX) trial. She has been taking it for more than four years and has found it the most beneficial medication for her arthritis. She is in a state of denial, thinking her doctor can keep getting it for her, but I tried to tell her that it has been taken off the market and simply will not be available. And I doubt that her doctor will be a party to obtaining a source for it when he has to deal with liability issues. |

Interestingly, my cardiologist warned me against taking it specifically when we discussed medications in general, back in 1996. gloria p |

I wasn't aware that Vioxx had been on the market that long. I used to go to Mexico to get medications for my mother and I remember seeing signs at the phamacies saying Vioxx is now here. It seemed like that was about 4 years ago. Anyway, I guess a lot of medicines are capable of some bad side effects. My ex wife almost died from a severe reaction to Celebrex. |

When our druggist called yesterday he told my wife that her prescription dates back to 1999, and I remember her switching when my sister in law told her about a new drug that was supposed to be terrific, so I get the impression that is when it first became available. |
