Perhaps that was also due to the fact that his song "Via con me" was used
in the soundtrack of the Hollywood movie "French Kiss" (a film otherwise
full of cliches, but I'll leave it to the French to gripe about that
;-) ).

And since we are on the subject of Italian songwriters and singers, let me
pull a plug for my 3 favorite ones :
- Fabrizio De Andre (sadly, died a few years ago in his late fifties). He has
a son, Cristian De Andre, who sings too, I never heard him so can't comment.
- Francesco Guccini
- Roberto Vecchioni
