OK, you're waiting for an ARTIST to die, and Miller, Kangaroo, and Newton don't rate. I'll let you know when Shirley Temple kicks. |

LOL I guess you haven't figured out yet that no one cares that you don't care. :P I suggest you refrain from opening obviously OT threads if you're so terribly concerned about "wasting your bandwidth". I belong to alt.obituaries, where celebrity deaths are discussed ad nauseum, and people there race to be the first to report a celebrity death. In RFC, I don't have a problem with it if the subject is cooking-related, like Julia Child for example. Michael O'Connor - Modern Renaissance Man "The likelihood of one individual being correct increases in a direct proportion to the intensity with which others try to prove him wrong" James Mason from the movie "Heaven Can Wait". |

Wednesday I had my next door neighbors were over for dinner so I baked a smoked butt half ham (12+lbs). Since then I've been picking at the LOs but still there was quite a bit on the bone, so lucky me, I had two 1lb bags of Goya navy beans... broke out a 10qt pot tossed everything in and within 20 minutes I had soup asimmering. water, about 8qts 2lbs navy beans, picked over smoked ham bone with about 1lb of meat 1 jumbo onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, slivered 3 carrots, sliced into coins 4 bay leaves black and white pepper, ground, lots marjoram parsley 2 cloves 1 packet Goya chicken stock. no additional salt. --- Been simmering now for 'bout 4 hours, meat already fell off the bone so discared bone, discared bay leaves too, didn't spot the cloves yet... beans are tender so it's ready... 'bout 6qts of yumminess... no greens, no corn bread, I'll have mine with fresh baked seeded rye. ---= BOYCOTT FRENCH--GERMAN (belgium) =--- ---= Move UNITED NATIONS To Paris =--- Sheldon ```````````` "Life would be devoid of all meaning were it without tribulation." |

Anyway, a > pot of bean soup, corn bread and some greens would keep them happy after > the competition. > This week, I made a huge pot of the "17 bean" soup mix that Trader Joe's sells. I've never actually counted the beans on the package, so I don't know if barley is considered #17 or an extra #18. Anyway, I added extra pinto beans because I like them and because hubby put in too much water (not a problem) and simmered it with the cover on until I got home (a problem). I boiled it down, but it wasn't going fast enough - so I added more brown lentils to thicken. Of course, it all began with a ham hock, the usual chopped carrot, tomato, lots of onion, garlic, salt (of course) & pepper. I also added 1/2 a package of frozen chopped spinach near the end. Hubby tasted and commented that it tasted like ministrone. I thought why not? So, I boiled up some noodles and added them too. LOL! Guess what we had for lunch the rest of the week? ![]() "PENMART01" > wrote in message ... > > Wednesday I had my next door neighbors were over for dinner so I baked a smoked > butt half ham (12+lbs). * Did you do anything special when you baked the ham? I was driving by a country butcher shop today and I bought a smoked ham there. My "duh" moment happened about 20 minutes later when I realized it wasn't fully cooked, and I've never baked a ham before. I guess I'll bake it at around 325 deg, remove the skin, and make a glaze for it. (Plenty of these recipes on the web.) Any other suggestions? Pablo |
