Default Kobe beef. Worth the hype???

Has anyone here ever had Kobe beef?
Is it really worth what they charge for it???

There are so many other delicious specialty
foods that are not nearly as expensive!

King crab comes to mind. ;-)

It's tender and delicious and absolutely worth eating if someone else is
buying.

K,

Good questions. I wonder myself, after the $100 cheesesteak thread!

Agreed. That reminds me of when Tom Hanks, in Castaway, after being
rescued, is in his hotel room after the guests leave and picks up a king
crab leg and tosses it back on the table in disgust?!

P.S. I remember as a kid we used to eat hamburger raw (if bits were left
over) and it was delicious. Those were the days. -A

I concur. The made in the U.S. version called "wagyu" (IIRC) is equally
good in my experience and sells for about half the price.

It's great on cheesesteaks and for making top notch burgers; I can't wait to
make some meatloaf with it.

Then again, nothing beats a good tongue-in-cheek sangwich.

At this point I beleive that real Japanese Kobe beef is illegal to import
into the US (there is/was a ban on all Japanese beef due to a BSE mini-
outbreak). So anything you get in the US will be waygu (the breed of cow is
called waygu, it's only Kobe beef is you have a waygu cow raised in Kobe
using the special diet and methods).

I believe that in the movie he had eaten almost exclusively
land crabs on the island...one can tire of anything.
