Yes, it's the same thing. And no reason not to cook with it. I add it to
soda bread and things like that; it's a rising agent. Also good in a glass
of water if you have an upset stomach; sort of a poor-man's Alka-seltzer.

Also odor-absorber, as advertised. Arm&Hammer sells a 'cat box
freshener' for about twice the price. I called their 800 # some time
ago asking how it was different from plain ol' baking soda. Not a bit.
The plain ol' works well to keep the odor under control.

It's a fair cleaning product, being mildly abrasive. You can brush
your teeth with it.

Ah yes! put a box of baking soda in the fridge or freezer, then after a
month dump it down the disposal to freshen that up too! It dissolves
quickly so no need to worry about blockages.

I use baking soda to brush my teeth occasionally. Notice how many
toothpastes that cost $5 a tube have baking soda in them as a "whitener"?
Heh... 25 cents a box in some places :)

Bi carb is good for cleaning teeth. As the book says....... "Once you get
used to the taste you'll never use toothpaste again."
