Default I'm neither sick nor deceased . . .

I have been out of town this week and not had access to the net.
Before thant I had problems and had to get a new router. Before that
it was Thanksgiving. Today Family Healthcare Center (I'm on the
Board) received a federal grant for $6,600,000. I bawled like a baby!

That's wonderful! I have no idea what programs you cover, but anything at
all is so needed. Thanks for working at it.

Glad to hear the good news! Some people here would say you "cried for
happy", so congratulations and welcome back.

That's fantastic, Lynn. My cynical twin says: Be prepared to
spend a hefty portion of the grant on record keeping.

Can you tell us more about the Center?

Glad to here you are alive and well! And probably tired -
after all that. ;-)

Happy Holidays!

Thanks, all . . .

I'm home now. Family Healthcare Center in Fargo is a medical clinic
that currently serves over 11,000 patients, over 70% of whom have NO
health insurance. About 3,000 are children, 1100 are homeless, 4,500
are refugees, and 9,900 are low income. We provide services including
over $2,000,000 in free or discounted prescription drugs to our
patients plus pre-natal care, care and education for 1,700 people with
diabetes, other chronic illness management, medical interpreters to
provide language assistance to all local providers. Right now every
day we treat 90 people. . . but over 200 people want our help. Our
dental clinic sees 46 patients per day, many of whom travel over 100
miles to be treated. We can do only palliative and preventive care
because we have no room to add more dental providers.

Without this medical home, I would be dead.

Wow! It services *that many* people? Your $6.6 million is starting
to sound like a paltry sum now.

RFC would be a less interesting place if you weren't here, Lynn. Stay
well!

Same here.

It's very good that healthcare centers such as this exist, given
the general historical governmental indifference to healthcare delivery
in the U.S....

I'm so glad it was available.

What a worthwhile cause.

I am hoping strongly that in addition to your clinic, soon
healthcare will be available to all who need it.

Fat chance. The wimps will pass it without the public option. There
will be no competition and insurance companies will still be in the
driver's seat, but we're supposed to say "thank you" anyway. Grrr.
