Just a note to let you all know that we made it safely!

As you know, we drove, because Greyhound was too expensive. Of
course, it's still two weeks before Christmas, and if my ****ing
husband would have just WORKED, maybe we'd have been able to afford
the Greyhound, or maybe even the Amtrak! Well, prolly better this way
because the food on Amtrak is very expensive.

Oh well

I love Rhode Island because I love the Rhode Island Reds! Here's a

Driving had got to be better than Greyhound, although I recall
a trip from Pittsburgh, PA to Huntsville, AL on a bus (not Greyhound,
the other one) which took 23 hours. But, I was only 13 and there
was this really cute sailor I flirted with for at least half the
trip. By the time I was 19 I was not so enamored of travel by
bus. Maybe it was the scarcity of cute sailors (or marines or
air force pilots, or coast guards) that turned me away from
bussing it to driving (lots of cute truck drivers in the rest
areas).

Me, too! We used to have them on the family farm that my
grandfather grew up on. His 2 sisters lived there till they
died and kept all kinds of birds - white leghorns, R. I. reds,
bantams, mallards, muscovies, 1 pekin, geese, guinea hens!
It was a bird wonderland!

I loved the Rhodies! They are so cuddly. You can't touch a
leghorn but the Rhodies would let you catch them and hold them.

My sister was more into the banties. We called her chicken
girl. I have photos of her with a bantam on each shoulder,
some, one on her head, and one in her arms. She was the
bantie rooster whisperer of the day. She could even tame
those feisty little devils.

So, the last time I was in R. I., well okay, the 1st and only
time), I made sure to go see the R. I. red monument. I was
very disappointed that it was so small, just a relatively
small plaque! I was sure it would be a giant bronze statue
on a high pedestal! Surely they deserve that . . . and more!

R. I. - honor your poultry properly, fer cryin' out loud!
