Blizzard warnings predicted for my area (Baltimore/Washington), with
snow predicted to be 15 - 20 inches and possibly 2 feet. It's snowing
hard right now. They're saying it could be one for the Washington
history books.
You'll be happy to know that the Senate is meeting!!

Yup, I'm "hunkering down" as they say. It sure is pretty though. I can't
remember the last time we had a white Christmas here in MD.

Egads, Cheryl. I hope the weather is not as bad as they have
predicted. Relax and enjoy the holiday music. BTW, I noticed Bob Dylan
has a Christmas CD. I am not recommending that one. lol

That looks like just a good snow. It doesn't look anything like a blizzard
though.

I can't even imagine what Christmas songs by Bob Dylan sound like!
Then again, I just heard some Christmas songs sung by Rob Halford of
Judas Priest and that was scary.

I can barely see the house across the street any more.

Two feet is a blizzard? That's above normal snowfall, here, but hardly a
blizzard. What time frame? Three feet overnight might qualify.

Blizzard also requires wind over 35 mph and visibility less than 1/4 mile.
Amount of snow does not matter.

It always cracks me up when they announce only folks doing important
stuff should be on the road when there is any mention of snow in DC. To
me that would no one needs to go out that day.

I am further up in PA so it only looks like we are going to get 5
inches. Canceled a Sunday trip to NYC because it looks like they are
going to get substantial snow.

Well, the weather people are saying "white-out blizzard at times" and,
looking out the window, I can believe it. It's snowing like Hades -
but probably people out West or to the north might laugh about it.
What do we know - it's a blizzard to us, here on the Mason-Dixon line!
Give us our hour of glory.

IIRC there's also a temp involved...I think it's +10 or below. If I'm
wrong someone will correct me.

http://www.weather.com/encyclopedia/.../blizzard.html

Blizzards
Blizzards are characterized by low temperatures (usually below 20°F) and
accompanied by winds that are at least 35 mph or greater, there must also be
sufficient falling and/or blowing snow in the air that will frequently
reduce visibility to 1/4 mile or less for a duration of at least 3 hours.

A severe blizzard is considered to have temperatures near or below 10°F,
winds exceeding 45 mph, and visibility reduced by snow to near zero.

Blizzard conditions often develop on the northwest side of an intense storm
system The difference between the lower pressure in the storm and the higher
pressure to the west creates a tight pressure gradient, which in turn
results in very strong winds.

You enjoy your snowfall, Dora, it is so appropriate at this time of the
year. We take our thrills as we get them. :-)

Pretty pretty!
But a LOT of hard work...

We used to live above Denver on Shadow Mountain near Evergreen.

It is not the amount of snow that makes the weather a blizzard. It is
the cold and strong winds that make a blizzard. The last real blizzard
was in 1977 and there was not that much new snow. Most of it was old
snow that was blown across Lake Erie, which was frozen over.

I enjoy snow. Living in this climate, it is expected at Christmas. It
just isn't Christmas without snow.

I have heard Dylan's version of "Must Be Santa." It was a ripoff of the
Brave Combo nuclear-polka version, except the guys in Brave Combo can
sing. Truly grim.

Put them all in a room, lock the doors, no one in or out until they get
something done. No food or water delivery. If they can't come up with
something in 10 hours, give them water..... but lock the bathrooms.

Assign seats alphabetically, no political party caucuses allowed.
Secret ballots.

Maybe then they will all start doing what is best for the American
people rather than their political party.

I like that they get the same program they legislate for us, but it
won't happen. They think they are above us.

i thought the zimmerman was born again and then got unborn-again.

In the late 1970s, Dylan became a born-again Christian and released two
albums of Christian gospel music. Slow Train Coming (1979) featured the
guitar accompaniment of Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) and was produced by
veteran R&B producer, Jerry Wexler. Wexler recalled that when Dylan had
tried to evangelize him during the recording, he replied: "Bob, you're
dealing with a sixty-two-year old Jewish atheist. Let's just make an
album."

I always thought that it was interesting that a Jew could become "born
again", one of his many religious phases.

That may explain why I liked that album so much. I have long been a
major fan of Mark Knopfler. I have a couple CDs of him with other
artists, like Chet Atkins and Emmy Lou Harris. Great stuff.

Rob Halford has a very good voice. Judas Priest's rendition of "Diamonds and
Rust" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Bob, not nostalgic? Then give me another word for it!

I agree. I grew up in the sand hills of Nebraska and 2 feet of snow
was nothing. I had to walk to school and back...rain, snow,
heat...didn't matter. I can't recall the school ever being closed
because of snow.
