sure did. ms bev made a batch, using a smoked turkey wing for
flavor. this was for the 2nd annual black retired nurses association
new year's day celebration, of which i am an honorary member. we
also had greens, turkey, ham, mac & cheese, green salad, sweet yams,
peach cobbler and lemon cake; and my contribution of challa type rolls
and the dressing for the turkey.

Not only no, but hell no.
Creamy? Gritty! The texture and taste both suck!

Can't tell I absolutely hate black eyed peas? ;-)

I am not a fan either. My mother made pasta fagioli with black eyed
peas. HATED IT.

It was the grossest looking soup, and everyone loved it except me. I
blame the BEPs.

That and mom's Eggplant soup, and her mix of carrots and turnips mashed.
There are some childhood dishes I'd rather permanently forget. <g>

I don't get. Do retired black nurses have so little in common with
retired White and Hispanic nurses that they need their own organization?

It's nice of you to make all these special black organizations that
exclude all other races. Thank you for keeping racism alive and well.

And the term "black" is so un-PC.

the word and concept of reason are not included in your level of
intellect, of which i am assuming to be in the single digit zone. it
it were you would not have posted such a stupid remark. however, i
should not have been surprised at the comment.

just as a rose is a rose is a rose....an asshole is an asshole is an
asshole and even the inclusion of new genetic material cannot change
that.

I love most beans, but for some reason, limas and black-eyed peas hit me
wrong.

Still waiting...

If you can't come up with an answer of why retired black nurses are
somehow more distinguished than White, Mexican, or Chinese retired nurses
then just shut the **** up already.

Maybe because back in the day a number of nursing programs would not accept
blacks or other minorities, Steve...

That's only a reason to perpetualize racism. There is no reason today to
continue to gather around and talk about past discrimination.

What if an organization of Retired White Nurses was formed to talk about
the days when they didn't have black nurses?

I don't see that at all. Why is it only up the Whites to end racism while
the blacks (rarely the Mexicans) keep organizing these arbitrary
exclusively black mini-societies just so they can exclude themselves like
they're some sort of outcasts.

The more concessions we give them the more they gobble it up and withdraw.

As for the White Man getting the most preference, it's fairly well
documented that we are the the most underprivileged group of people on
Earth as far as the government is concerned. And affirmative action makes
sure we don't get even less preference than these so-called minorities.

I have no idea what you must have done to black-eyed peas to make them
gritty. I've never had a gritty black-eyed pea.

Have you tried black-eyed pea pancakes, a.k.a. chaura na poora? I posted the
recipe here just over a year ago; the Message ID is

(This is just a thinly-disguised way of saying, "You've never had black-eyed
peas the way that *I* make them!")

I've never prepped them myself, just had what others had to offer for a
"good luck" charm for the New Year at parties.

They were always gross. :-(

I guess I need to consider making them myself for once. So many people
are abysmal cooks!

Thing is, even canned ones I've tried have been gritty and nasty.
That's put me off trying to make them myself.

Nah, I think that you just plain don't like the taste of black-eyed peas, so
even if they're made with a texture you find agreeable, you won't like them.
That being said, the black-eyed pea pancake recipe I posted doesn't have
that flavor, so maybe that would be a good one for you to try.
