Default Omaha Steak dinner

One of our Christmas gifts was some Omaha steaks.
Tonight I finally got around to making them.

I really wanted to grill them but it's been so cold, windy and rainy I
decided to broil them.
http://i49.tinypic.com/10p506t.jpg

The steaks and sides were delicious. The steaks came with twice baked
potatoes and a vegetable medley.

Earlier today I made a Yogurt Cake. I must admit we snacked on it a
little more than we should have.
Really moist and delicious.
http://i49.tinypic.com/2myw7c4.jpg

Raspberry yogurt glaze.
http://i49.tinypic.com/28m21ae.jpg

I got the cake recipe from
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2...ke-to-die-for/

or
http://tinyurl.com/5ubslb

I did deviate a little by using a Raspberry Pomegranate Preserve
glaze.

I'm stuffed, I'm happy ;-)

I bet you are stuffed, too <g> - as stuffed as that double-stuffed
twiced-baked potato in the background was too I bet! Dang - as
always, what gorgeous photos! Now pray tell please, would you order
those Omaha steaks on your own - were that they good? The photos you
shared make me want to order some, but is the price worth it??? They
were perfectly cooked!

Those look like the top sirloin. That happens to be my favorite cut of
steak. I can get them regular price at my market for $6-7 a pound and
they regularly go down to $3.99/lb. Omaha steaks IMO they are not
worth the price. It's a lot to pay for frozen beef. The steaks are
delicous but no better than what we buy locally fresh not frozen.

I have to admit, the double stuffed potato was delicious. It even had
little chunks of bacon in it.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the compliment.

No Sky, it was a Christmas gift.
We were sent 4 of those filets, 4 potatoes and the vegetables.
It was very good but not any better than what I can get locally.

I suppose if you were in an area that good beef was hard to come by it
would probably be worth the expense for a treat now and then.
I have no idea how much they charge, I've never been that interested
in them.

I just looked them up here's what I found.
The original url was 141 characters long so I thought you'd appreciate
the tiny url. ;-)
Here is what we were sent. It's on sale now for $49.99
http://tinyurl.com/yzxyjl2
Looks like it's a pretty good sale, you can't get that meal for that
price in a restaurant. It originally was $104.00

This is the beef I typically buy and I love it. I'm fortunate our
local butcher carries it.

Yup, we mix up meals all the time. We call it "breakfast for supper"!
Everyone gets pretty excited when I start pulling out the frying pans.

Agreed. I used to receive Omaha steaks as a business xmas gift. When
we lived in L.A. I thought it was a nice gesture but ho-hum; when we
lived in Alaska I thought it was a terrific windfall. They are good
quality (but I think there are other better sellers like maybe
Lobel's), somewhat pricey. IOW, a gift item, not a place to meet
your ordinary shoopping needs. -aem

"Somewhat pricey" indeed. Allen Brothers also seems to get very
high ratings. Here is their website, slurp gnarf gnarf:

I wondered if Lobel's is that good, why isn't it practically a
household name like Omaha Steak? Well at $27 for one eight oz steak,
I think I know.

Omaha advertises in the back pages of various magazines,
which is how they get a reputation. Lobel's relies
on word-of-mouth.

I'm amazed that the Omaha Steak retail store near me
is still open. I can't imagine it will still be in
business a year from now.

Looks delicious. We sent someone Omaha steaks and I have no idea if
they received them or not, so let your friend/family know you did get
them. Omaha Steaks calls repeatedly trying to sell us something, I had
no idea that would happen. Grrrr..... lol

Oh, we were sure to let them know. It would be bad manners not to tell
them thank you.

I have the ice chest they came in, in the back of my car. It's the
perfect size for bringing cold groceries home.

Tell them you want to be taken off their call list. It's kinda like
saying "unsubscribe" to email. I was surprised by how fast the person
on the other end of the phone reacted (the sales pitch stopped) the
first time I said it and I *was* taken off.

Yes, they do. It surprised me too. I don't know
the business arrangement. I suspect it's a "business
opportunity" scam, in which hopeful entrepreneurs
are led to believe they can get in on the ground
floor of the next big thing. I doubt that Omaha Steaks
has any capital at risk in this shop.

And here I was thinking that "Omaha Steaks" were another (different) cut of
meat!!

GIMF :-)

Who wooda thunk it....... an online steak shop!!

http://www.omahasteaks.com/servlet/OnlineShopping?Dsp=1

The prices seem quite good.......

6 (6 oz.) Bacon-Wrapped Filets
Reg. $99.99 | Now Only $49.99

6X6oz = 36oz = 2lb = 4.4kg....... which works out to about USD$11.36 per
kg..... which at todays rate works out to AUD$12.57kg

Which is not bad........ even if they do arrive frozen!!

Nice looking steak, BTW ;-)

Too bad you couldn't jet over here for a day or so...... I'd knock your
bobby socks off with some steaks from the "Super Butcher" ;-)

Thank you ma'am, I only give them if they're warranted :-)

Anyhoo's......... your make of Ree's recipe got me thinking that I'd done
something like that....... sometime in the past!!

So I hunted in amongst the multitude of albums, and sure enough.........

Now I know why the SO keeps at me.......... "Remember that cake you made
that had this in it, and that on top??"

And I go "Nup."

I make it, we eat it, I forget about it, and move on to the next
'challenge' :-)

Everything looks good. We got a box from Kansas City Steak Co. for
Christmas. The steaks were good but no better than what we can get
in the store. But it was a nice gesture.

Sorry, Peter, but you got it backwards again. :-(

I was always taught to apply a "reasonableness" test after doing a
calculation. The kg are the "big" ones, and pounds are the little ones,
so you should always end up with fewer kg than pounds.

So, 36oz is pretty close to one kg.

Bugger!!

One reason I rekon there should be a world wide 'one system' system.

But in any case, $50 per kg is a *damn* expensive kg of steak.

Thanks for the pick up Dan :-)

We're all scared. You hid in that ditch because you think there's still
hope. But soldier, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that
you're already dead. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be
able to function as a soldier is supposed to function. Without mercy.
Without compassion. Without remorse. All war depends on it.

Without mercy. Without compassion. Without remorse.

Bugger!!

One reason I rekon there should be a world wide 'one system' new world
order.

But in any case, $50 per metric tonne is a *damn* expensive tonne of
steak.

Thanks for trying to pick me up Dan :-)

We're all scared. You hid in that bed because you think there's still
hope. But soldier, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that
you're already ass-raped. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner
you'll be
able to function as a human is supposed to function. Without
brainwashing.
Without stupidity. Without subservience. Self respect depends on it.
