I lived in New Orleans for many years, through the hard times when we
still went to the games and we wore the
paper bags. Of course those paper bags were very carefully and
colorfully decorated and unique!!!

No more 'Aints !! I cannot imagine how that city looked last
night. Mardi Gras season is well in swing with the
parties and balls, but I bet the whole place looked like Fat
Tuesday.....they are still partying I'm sure.

Super bowl party food........well, Jambalaya is a great dish to make
for a crowd. Gotta have a king cake....
sazerac coctails, lots of boiled shrimp with good horseradishy coctail
sauce....bloody marys....... muffaletta sandwiches are easy and serve
lots..... so much I could make.....

I can't get Dixie longneck beer here or I'd have a cooler full.

"Results 1 - 10 of about 769,000 for recipe milk punch. (0.27 seconds)"

Less than 1/2 a second to get 769,000 recipes for "Milk Punch".

How frikken hard is it??? Or have people become too reliant on other
people to do their work for them???

The whole point of newsgroups is for people to share experiences and
information. If you are going to use Google for every answer, why
bother participating here?

Sky, Brandy Milk Punch is a New Orleans coctail that has been a
favorite in the City for generations. It's usually served at brunch
or as a 'hair of the dog' morning after the party drink. Here's an
easy recipe:

Ingredients:
2 ounces brandy
1 ounce Simple Syrup
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 ounces milk ( I like half and half)
Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Preparation:
Combine all the ingredients in cocktail shaker with ice and shake
vigorously. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a
light dusting of freshly grated nutmeg and serve immediately.

Lay off. Nobody rattled your cage. It is entirely possible (nay,
probable) that Christine's "Milk Punch" is not like others. A
personal recommendation is preferable over a recipe search.

Agreed, but google certainly can answer a general what's that question
for people who are not on American time schedules and not likely to
get a direct answer in any less than a few hours.

I have no idea what a milk punch is composed of either other than
there's booze in it and obviously... milk. I'm guessing it's like
eggnog without the egg.

Me too. :-) I am not interested in football, but I like parties.

We had dinner in a restaurant last night, and we could hear people from
the bar shouting and carrying on. Now I can see why they were so
excited, I did not know the Saints were playing. I wondered why the
waiters were wearing Saints jerseys. lol People here in Louisiana are
pretty excited about it.

An old-fashioned milk-based concoction with LOTS of alcohol IIRC...

ISTR it's one of the things that Clarence, George Bailey's guardian angel in
_It's A Wonderful Life_, asks for when they go to the bar after Clarence
saves George. Clarence is from the Colonial era...

OK George......... please tell me, in minute detail, how to boil an egg.

See how ****ing ridiculous it could become??

I used to post to another newsgroup..... some of the 'members' would get
on there and say "I'm bored, amuse me".

Too many people are becoming too frikken complacent and reliant on other
people to do their 'dirty work' for them.

They have an abnormally large 'lazy gene' and revel in the fact that
people will run after them and 'peel their grapes' for them.

If you own a computer, and you have access to the internet, learn how to
use the ****ing thing, or go back to writing meesages on scraps of paper
and tying them to pigeon legs.

How ****ing hard is it to write "recipe milk punch" into the Google
search bar???????????????????????????????????????????

No.

You people are getting to bloody lazy to do you own frikken work.

Did someone rattle your cage?

It is *ENTIRELY* possible that Christine's "milk punch" is soo bloody
similar to the other 768,999 milk punch recipies that it wouldn't make
much difference.

Did you ever consider that possibility???

The whole point of this is......... get off your fat lazy arse and do
your own search, rather than sit there and have people run after you
like you're some sort of ****ing internet royalty.

You('re) not.

Build a bridge and get over it.

Some *one*???

Try a whole bunch of 'someone' lame-asses.

"Ooooooooooooo, can someone give me a recipe for 'smores?"

"Oooooooo, can someone give me a recipe for scrambled eggs?"

Ooooooo, can someone give me a recipe for cheese on toast?"

or..........

How do you cook a chicken?
How do you cook an egg?
How do you cook meatloaf?

Yes... and they are all out there with a single purpose.... to aggravate

someone has to police the usenet intertubes, george. otherwise posts
concerning things peter isn't interested in (or not about peter himself)

It's doubtful anyone planning to make Christine's milk punch will need an
answer in less than a few hours. Isn't the Super Bowl in February?

Thanks for posting the recipe, Mags. Looks like a very good punch that
I'll have to try. Like Christine, I think I'll make one for the
upcoming boozalong

boozealong tentatively scheduled for the day before, 2/6. so, to mix

I'm not the one who said it was your milk punch... I think that was Nancy
Dooley.

February is next week... Monday, to be exact. So I'm not sure why sf
thought people would need the answer in a few hours. Maybe milk punch takes
*days* to prepare... I dunno

I'm not interested in the game, either. I proposed a "we don't care about
the game" pre-game party to my neighbor and she readily agreed That
afternoon it's just a few gals with appetizers and snacks, some wine and
cocktails (sorry, no milk punch!) and general chit-chat. Those who are
married, their husbands can gather in front of the tube with beer and chips

I think I'll make artichoke-lemon pesto. I won't get to enjoy it since I
can't eat nuts... I may make a small amount without the pignoles or walnuts.

2 cans artichoke hearts, drained and rinsed
5 cloves garlic
3 Tbs. capers
1 Tbs. pine nuts (pignoles) or chopped walnuts
2 green onions, diced
Zest and juice of one fresh lemon
1 c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 to 1/2 c. olive oil, as needed

Blend all ingredients except oil in a food processor or blender until
smooth. Add the oil gradually and pulse to the desired texture. Store in
tightly covered jars in the refrigerator. Makes about 4 cups.

This is wonderful as a spread on thinly sliced, lightly toasted bread or on
crackers.

<shrug> I have no idea what bee is in your bonnet. I'm not the one
making a big deal of this, you are.

Make the whole damned thing without nuts. They aren't adding anything
all that important.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

I do: Milk punch takes about thirty seconds to prepare. Milk, sugar, and
brandy (or bourbon) are shaken together with ice, the drink is poured, and
nutmeg is grated on top. That's it. The drink is one of those New Orleans
"eye openers," best enjoyed with Crepes Fitzgerald during a leisurely brunch
at Brennan's.
