Dang, I was in Bulk Barn today and forgot to check the price on minute
tapioca. I checked their web site and they carry it, but no price
listed. However, they do not carry pearl tapioca. Nor does the grocery
store carry pearl tapioca. I checked the price on the minute stuff....
$3.59. All this talk got me craving tapioca, so I made a batch (minute).
It actually takes about 25 minutes... 25 minutes to soak and 10 to cook.
I took 3 Tablespoons to make a batch with 2-3/4 cups milk. Sure, it is
more expensive than flour, but it is a heck of a lot better, and 50cents
worth of tapioca isn't going to break me. It was more than that for the
milk and egg.

After you take your juicy tapioca thickened fruit pie out of the oven,
lower the heat to 250 and make my Aunt Iris' beef pot roast. Put a 1 1/2
to 3 1/2 lb. beef roast in a roasting pan with a cover, along with
potatoes, carrots and onions. Pour a mixture of 3/4 c. water and 4 Tbs.
minute tapioca over all (a little less for small roast), cover and cook
for 5 hours at 250 deg. DON'T PEAK! Very, very good. The tapioca makes a
lovely gravy. jh

In a different thread, I mentioned we went to an Asian market today.
They had large pearl tapioca that were the size of pearls and some were
as small as the head of a pin. They were in plastic bags.

As much as I hate being a copycat, I do believe that I'm gonna cook up a
batch. If there's enough in that old box in the cupboard, that is.
Tapioca pudding has got to be one of the most comfortable of comfort
foods. If there isn't enough, I'm going to be sad - and uncomfortable. :-(
