I think I want a food processor. Although I would probably love one of those
$200-$800 ones I don't want to spend that much. I can't afford it and I don't think I would use it that much plus I don't have a lot of space so it will mostly live in a cabinet. So all things considered, does anyone have or know of one that is good? Penny's has a Wolfgang Puck one for $70.00 but Overstock has the same one for $26. This leads me to think it isn't very good to begin with. |

I would puree stuff too. You can get the 'basic' Cuisinart for about $100 and it comes with everything you would ever really use. I agree. If you're SURE that you would like one, then get a good one. Otherwise, get a used one, find out just how much you use it, then adjust. If you don't like it or don't use it, you won't be throwing money down a rabbit hole. When I had one, I used it a lot, and by using it a lot, one finds new uses for it, and how to use it better, and to its intents. It is sure great for pureeing, and fine chopping that you can do in a few seconds vs. a lot longer other ways. The downside is cleaning, but that's not bad with SS nowadays. Steve |

I mainly clean it by hand but run the bowl through the dishwasher occasionally if I see grunge in places I can't get to. Another thing I'd recommend to Phyllis is a wand/stick blender. They are still inexpensive and best to use when pureeing large amounts of liquidy stuff for sauce and soup. -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

They have one on Ebay right now for $14.99, but the bidding ends on that one in 45 minutes. Becca |

This leads me to think it isn't very good to begin with. You can find 7 cup Kitchenaid and Cuisinart models for under 100 bucks. If you can go to 150 or so then you have a wide range of options. If you said what specific use you envisioned for it someone might be able to give you better guidance. |

If you can go to 150 or so then you have a wide > range of options. Those 7-cup models seem pretty adequate to me. I also have a 2-cup Cuisinart (about 35 bucks) that gets used much more. The bigger ones can do a decent job of slicing or julienning and are heavier duty of course but you don't seem to contemplate day to day use and anything beyond a medium sized Cuisinart or Kitchenaid seems overkill. I have the old original Cuisinart. It weighs a bunch, but will do a lot of work in a short time. I had an Oster machine that was very nice, but long gone. I am not fond of my small Kitchenaide unit. It is just a little too small and does not puree well. The all out favorite in my collection is the Sunbeam Little Oskar. It is the right size and has a nice selection of slicers, etc. I don't think they still make it, but it gives you and idea of the good size and accessories. Dale P |

When that one dies, depending on how long it takes, you can consider getting a heavier duty model. I had bought a black and decker years ago. I used it a lot. It wasn't meant for such heavy use and the plastic bowl cracked. It lasted me 5-6 years. At that point, I bought a Cuisinart. that was more than 10 years ago the thing is going strong. Until you know how you will use it, it makes no sense to make a big dollar investment. I would try the $26 one from Overstock. What have you got to lose? For the $30 investment including shipping, it will probably serve you for a year or two minimum, and give you a good idea of whether you actually need to go Cuisinart or Kitchenaid. If you only use it 3-4 times a year, Wolfie will serve you well for a very small investment. If you use it 3-4 times a week, use it till it breaks or you find something it can't do... and get another. |

I don't remember using it for anything else. Certainly not potato chips. It won't do what many food processors will do, but it can do some things. It's main benefit is that it is small, and the power unit can be used with the stick blender attachment, so it's space-efficient. I liked it so much I gave one to my mom as a Mother's Day present. |
