Default dinner last night

A local supermarket's "gourmet" store had delmonico
steaks (my favorite) on sale in the value pack for
$5.77/lb. So I splurged and got a package which contained
3 steaks. It was a last minute, spur of the moment,
decision and since I stopped after work and had to make
another stop and then get home and cook dinner before
Jeopardy started I forwent (is that a word? ;-)) the
traditional baked potato (takes too long to cook and I don't
like them microwaved) in favor of some Ore-Ida crinkle cut
french fries that can be baked. (Well that's what they claim
but I tried baking them - it was supposed to take 3 minutes
for one helping, spread out in a single layer on a cookie
sheet - but after 10 minutes they had not browned at all
so I put a little oil in the skillet and browned them on
high - about 3-5 minutes to get them crisp and browned.

I broiled one of the steaks for about 10 minutes, very
rare. But this steak was a little tough for rare. The
next one I'll move closer to the flame and broil it longer.

I also bought a bag of Dole coleslaw mix and made coleslaw
using Marzetti's Southern-style Slaw Dressing.

To accompany my fancy feast I had a bottle of Flathead Lake
Monster black raspberry soda. (I got that at the gourmet store
also as it was on sale, too.)

Pretty dame good meal. I only buy steak every few years. I
only like the best and it's too expensive to buy it too often.

For dessert I had a piece of the pecanless pie that my aunt made
and gave to me this past weekend.

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, I think it should be included in the
rfc faq ;-)

Well, if you insist. I guess some people call it that.
But in my experience, around here, it's almost always just
referred to as delmonico. Although this store did call it
both on the label.

That's too bad Kate.....

We're quite lucky in Brisbane as we have a magnificent (and realtively
cheap) butcher......

Nope, you can buy as much, or as little as you want. They don't have
anything 'loose'. like walking into a butchers and asking for 250gms of
sausages, but most of their pre-packs range from 500gms up.

I should have given you this url.......

http://www.superbutcher.com.au/super_butcher_home.ews

so you can click on the products on the side and see.

You can see the packs we usually buy here........

http://s199.photobucket.com/albums/a...oin%20restock/

But the quality is top notch, so we always end up buying a whole shiteload
anyways, just to restock the freezer and save several trips :-)

We are so fortunate not to have cheap, commercial spammers posting adverts
for food stores and listing their websites and links to their videos and telling
everyone how wonderful they are (and omitting to say how much they are
being paid for the spam) and then bragging about how much garbage they buy
and not saying how much their purchases are subsidized and how they are
simply cheap commercial shills. What a pleasure to know that such moral
depravity isn't present here, eh, Petey Lad, Defender Of Freedom and
Manliness, our Beacon of Hypocritical Crap???

I only have a refrigerator freezer, so no buying in bulk for me but
it's a moot point since Super Butcher is in Oz. However, I emailed
that link to my friend in Brisbane. She might be interested. Thanks.

Hey, Kate, I wasn't trying to be snarky or anything. It is just that
in some parts of the country different cuts of steak are called
Delmonico steaks and I was just asking which kind you used.

Our 'baby'........ who's 10 (or 11??) in June, is going off for a little
holiday to a friends place for the weekend, starting this afternoon. We
get her back on Monday afternoon, and then it's time to teach her that
she's a dog again, and no...... you can't come inside and sleep on one of
the lounge chairs, and no....... you *do* have to eat 75% dog food, and
no........ you can't come and sit on my lap if I go and sit on the
ground!!

They spoil her rotten, and she loves it!!

Then it's back home, and back into Doggie Boot Camp for her!!
