Default Another great Aussie/Tasmanian cooking show.....

http://www.sbs.com.au/shows/gourmetf.../1/h/Episodes/

Apart from the beautiful scenery, the magnificant produce, and the great
recipes.... it's filmed in what will become my home State..... at sometime in
the future.

Plus he is mates with a bunch of people I know, and have worked with down
there.

LOL!!!

Even the Tassies display parochialism :-)

I did my time up your end, based myself in Shearwater, but the north just
didn't have the same 'feel' to me as the south has.

Not that I'd never visit the north again!!

If you're anywhere near Shearwater, and like oysters the size of your
hand, let me know and I'll let you in on a secret spot the locals showed
me..... after they decided *I* had brought the rain with me from
Queensland :-)

Next time we go down there, we're going to go and stay at The Nut for a
few days.

I see you're a bit of a computer/Windows guru...... just a quick question if
I may.

We have a laptop with (Blech!!) Vista on it. Can I overwrite it with XP and
not lose any of the work/files etc that I have on there already?

Why of course you can, Petey. Do it on all of your drives. We will all
be quite grateful.

I don't think I'd believe this idiot pavane. You can usually upgrade, ie
to Windows 7 without data loss but it is rare that you can downgrade. In
any case, the golden rule is to back up ALL your data BEFORE any
attempt, upgrade or downgrade. That way you have a fallback. Anyway, a
fresh install of Windows XP is the safest way to go.

Not idiocy, merely opportunism. Read carefully.

Parochialism? No, we don't practice that in the North.
That only applies to the strange people South of Oatlands.

No, not that close to Shearwater (I am at Greens Beach) though it is
not a long drive (less than an hour). I don't have any oysters closer
than 1500 hundred metres, though I can get abalone in front (about 100
metres or less, depending on the tide)

The Nut is great!
I was there 3 days for the long weekend with 31 other bushwalkers in
January and the weather was superb.

I wouldn't even try.
Backup all your data, clean the drive and install XP.

If the laptop is a proprietary brand, you may not be able to.

Like telling roosters from hens :-)

For a trained chef, he's rather sqeamish about killing his own food.

The SO and I did a Blue Cheese making course at Bruny Cheeses with Nick and
Ross a couple years back. It was then that Ross told us he was starting out
with another chef and doing rare breed Charcuterie.

Some of their stuff is also included in the cheese club boxes that are sent
out.

Particularly the Pork Rillette.

Which makes me think that this current show is at least a couple of years
old.

LOL!!! Scatboi is another of my fervent stalkers. And why???? I rejected
it's homosexual advances. I wish queer pricks like him would just accept
the rejection and move on.

It gets that way, doesn't it? I am very used to XP these days and my
new laptop came with Vista. Vista is, IMNSHO, a steaming crock of the
proverbial. Windows 7 can only be an improvement but I am loathe to
upgrade after the Vista experience. No wonder Vista, like Windows ME
before it, had such a short market lifespan.
Best advice, copy any and all files you want to retain to an external
drive or CD/DVD, then do a fresh install of XP wiping out any trace of
Vista. Note that XP is no longer supported by Micro$oft so bug fixes
won't happen in the future. That could be an issue. I am assured by my
IT boys that some security fixes will be released for XP however.

I've seen FJ Holdens run the 1/4 mile faster than Vista works.

Yeah.

I even tried Open Office, but I have to liaise with several Govt
departments, and none of them seem to like anything but "original" o/s's.

Then there's the problem that some have XP, some have Vista.

Yep, pretty much what is being said across the board.

I've never been a fan of 'windows automatic updates'.

If I get a program, and it's working, I don't need any bug fixes.

I've always had good anti-virus/internet protection, so intrusions aren't a
problem.

Thanks for the advice.
