Default The "Iron Chef" generation

Dined out recently with a group including a 9-year-old boy who orders
carpaccio as a starter. Waiter places in front of him some beautifully
arranged tissue-thin slices on an oval porcelain platter. Kid smiles at
waiter and says, "Five points for plating."

Well, it was funny at the time. Maybe you had to have been there.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

A 9 year old ordering carpaccio is wow enough much less the awareness
of plating.

Not really funny to me. Wry perhaps, but not funny. I would have done no
more than mutter "holy shit" under my breath while wondering what the
kid's parents are like.

'Ey - at least the kid's been exposed to something outside of burgers,
fries and a Coke. Hats off to la Madre, or whoever's bringin' 'im up.
