OTB just filed for bankruptcy. Due to that, Belmont Park may not open this
year-OTB pays some ridiculous amount of money to the local tracks.
As for NY leading the way....Sheldon Silver-the rep from NYC (and easily the
most powerful man in Albany) favored the installation of slots in
Aqueduct-but not in Belmont. Why? He said that the blue collar workers on
Long Island would blow their paychecks. He 'conveniently' left out that
Aqueduct was in his district and Belmont was not. Note the two tracks are
about 10 miles from each other.
