LMAO! Looks like 'Captain' Phil(istine) 'caught' heart disease :-)

Given his penchant for fatty foods, butter, cream etcetcetc it is
little wonder he had a massive stroke.
Yet more proof that fatty cholesterol laden foods play havoc with
human bodies.

I'll stick to good old Canola oil and good margarine thank you very
much!

We're all scared. You hid in that bed because you think there's still
hope. But soldier, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that
you're already dead. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner
you'll be able to function as a human is supposed to function. Without
brainwashing. Without stupidity. Without subservience. Self respect
depends on it.

Without sense. Without thought. Without dignity.

How sad. AS a fan of the show, I liked him. The people working on these
boats are admirable.

Bugger :-(

And the same age as me, too.

I said earlier in the season that if the sea doesn't get him , the chain
smoking will. Especially after he had that heart scare, and yet he kept on
smoking, and kept on living rough.

His doctors told him a couple of years ago that if he didn't quit
smoking, he would soon die. The blood-clots he had in his lungs were
God's warning sign..

We've been watching it since it started over here.

It's like a microcosmic look inside a small community in which you get to
know everyone quite well.

It's certainly a job for a special breed of men. I couldn't handle it for
two reasons...... 1) I get seasick!!, and 2) I couldn't handle living in a
continual smoke haze.

But....... the show will go on.

Seems Jake Anderson off the Northwestern has had some family tragedy as
well.......

I was just looking at the Cornelia Marie site, then went to Sig Hansens
Northwestern site.......

http://www.fvnorthwestern.com/site/

They have a link to the site that is helping the families of the four
Police Officers gunned down in Lakewood.... as well as a recent officer
shot and killed attending a domestic violence call......

Yes, the people working on those boats are admirable to be supporting
others the way they do.

That was one tough son of a bitch. Pumping a blood clot through his heart
and making it. That had to hurt. Sad that he got through all of that, and
this hit him. It was nice to see his sons mature and grow up over the
seasons. I can't wait for the new season of Deadliest Catch. My brother
used to do that in the early nineties before anyone knew about it. I've
been in some rough water in the ocean, but what those guys do takes the
cake.

RIP, Phil.

reply: Why in the world do you continue to pig wrestle with this pig Peter?
Whatever the circumstances, this man is dead. To pontificate now about what
he should or should not have done is condescension in its purest form.
Snobbery. Elitism. "I'm better than you, and there's nothing wrong with
me!"

Is there any one among us who lives perfectly? And after someone dies, it
is time to celebrate their life, their successes, their good deeds, their
good points, laugh at the times they fell into a snowbank, and not pick the
corpse to pieces.

Killfile this PIECE OF HUMAN EXCREMENT Peter. To answer him is like arguing
with a macaque.

The least deckhand on that show is a hero to me. I spent years on boats,
barges, and offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Just to live in those
conditions, and to go out on deck and do your job takes a tough person, male
or female.

I once asked a captain what was the most important job on a ship. He said
none of them. It's all a crew and a team. Without someone to untie the
ropes, the boat would never leave the dock. And without everyone working
together, it's chaos.

All those guys are bigger than life.

I'd have to say the Hansen brothers on that score. They, especially
Sig, have done lots of talk show appearances and such.

That show really increased my respect for Alaskan crab.

Same here. If people realized what it took to get a crab they wouldn't
complain about the price.

Looking on Wikipedia, I found a reference to this
interesting article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4775155.stm

In the 1960's, the king crab was introduced to
the Barents Sea by the Soviet Union, and is now
spreading down the Norwegian coast. It is feared
it will eventually populate the sea floor all the
way to Gibralter.

Environmentalists warn about the destruction of
habitat for other marine creatures by these
voracious eaters. Norwegian fishermen complain
about the limited quota. The obvious solution is
to allow the fishermen to catch as many crabs as
they can.

If the Alaskan king crab industry didn't pay for that show,
they should have. It's the best publicity they could possibly
have. If they paid for the whole thing, I'm sure they'll see
a profit on the investment in terms of increased sales.

If they need an idea for a sequel, how about Easiest Catch,
the story of *** San Francisco crabbers who sleep late, put
on a bunch of suntan lotion, then sail a couple miles out
of the bay (if they leave the bay at all) to catch the
Dungeness crab. :-)

I remember watching the series when they went fdrom unlimited catch, to quota
catch. Even to someone halfway cross thew world, who's never tried King Crab,
it seemed a bit strange..... especially with the increasing numbers they were
bring in.

I also remember the explanation of why, whenever they started to pull up pots
with females and juveniles in, they just dumped the whole lot out.

Seems it's like a herd of buffalo wandering across the range down there,
millions upon millions of the suckers all walking the same way. Except, the
males lead the way, and the females follow with the 'kids'. When pots come up
with all males, they've hit the head of the march.... if it's females they've
hit the tail end.

I didn't watch enough of the series to know that.
That's interesting. I know Maine lobsters have
similar behavior. The march in long lines along
the sea floor. It's not something you would
normally imagine that they would do.

Certainly was. I saw them chucking all these crabs back (rail dumping, as
they call it) and thought "WTF???!!! There's gotta be some keepers in
that"

But no. Once they get females and juvi's in the mix, they pull them up and
dump them.

I've seen one of the crews do a whole pile of rail dumping, then the
skipper has checked his charts, checked the tide flow, looked at the
formations on the ocean floor, did some calculations as to the length of
the 'herd', and raced ahead and dropped his pots in front of the migration
(along a 'ridge line' with a drop off on either side), and come up with a
ship full of King Crab keepers!!

It's almost like tracking an enemy force through the bush, but you're
200' above them.

See Bob's reply elsewhere your cognitive dysfunction...
If they're "impotent"... then WHY did you feel compelled to reply with
the above?

THINK boy! Or can you not get out of the habit of having others do your
thinking for you?
