Default Ice cream

Yeah, it's winter. So what?

My house is clean becuase my mom visited yesterday, and when my house is
clean, I must cook. Tonight, it's gonna be this ice cream, but with no
vanilla bean:

Nah, probably still vanilla (not eliminating the vanilla extract, just
the bean, because I don't have any). I'm the only one in the family who
really likes sweet-cream, but it is my very favorite flavor, so maybe
I'll make some of that, too.

Lets hope it's made with love, and not aggression ;-)

Family visits tend to do that to a lot of people.

Makes me glad I'm an orphan :-)

Basically, vanilla ice cream without the vanilla. Put another way, it's
just the ice cream base without any other flavors. Tastes kinda like
frozen whipped cream, and the better the quality of the cream you use,
the better the ice cream comes out.

Yum.

Heh. I'll be one soon enough; I'm not in any hurry.

So what counts as high quality cream for his purpose?

Is Strauss good enough? Berkeley Farms? Altadena?

Cream from cows that have not been eating garlic grass in the summer. It
gives milk an odd taste.

Yep, but so far, I'm keeping it up. No mean feat, as I live in a house
full of slobs, and I include myself in that.

ObFood: The kid fried up some pirohy for breakfast and said "you need to
make these again!"

Sure! I have two makers: one large one that uses ice and salt, and one
that makes two pints at once and uses the frozen canisters.

Nah, I was teasing any rfc northern-hemispherians who were gonna tease
me about having ice cream in February, while most of our country is
buried under snow. :-)

Most everyone, yeah.

I don't have any vanilla beans, and can't justify the expense at the
moment. I made the custard last night and it's in the fridge. Next time
the kid comes down, I'll let her fire up the ice-cream maker and get it
going. The custard was damn good, though. I tested it for
quality-control purposes, you understand...

I know. :-) Any time from the 21st on is currently good for me, until
mid-March when I go to San Diego.

ObFood: We don't celebrate Valentine's Day around here, but we do
celebrate Sunday morning, and I'm making buttermilk pancakes, fried new
potatoes, ham, and scrambled eggs.

other system. my household, anyway.

Well, around here, we have an open door policy at dinner time every
night, at 7pm. Once or twice a week, someone takes us up on it, so
we're used to it, and we like it. So if you're ever at loose ends, you
can consider yourself invited; you don't need to invite yourself,
because I've done it for you. I cook very simple fare most of the time,
and more than half the time it's vegan, but it's plenty of good food and
tea and coffee, and then after dinner we can drag out the board games
for those who want to play.

(Obrfc: That goes for anyone here who is local or visiting town,
provided I have some idea who you are. If you don't already know where I
live, send me email and I'll send you directions. If you're very lucky
indeed, you could intersect with another rfc'er who brings us truffles
and lemon curd from time to time. We love Charlotte, and not just
because she brings us foodie gifts, honest!)

> You would think we could figure out a way to meet up..LOL. How about
> some morning after I get off work, assuming it will be day off for
> me.. Ice cream won't be on the menu then, but who knows..LOL.

I just sent you email about Thursday and Friday afternoons, because I'm
working, but not very late. And we can do ice cream if you want, after
the marketing, depending on your energy levels. :-)

Just about the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had, but that makes
sense, because I like my ice cream pure and simple. Everyone else ate
it and barely looked up from their keyboards (2 computer keyboards, one
piano keyboard), so maybe next time I make it, I won't share. :-)
