Neither are rennet, salt and the cultures that are used to make many cheeses. ObFood: We had Mac and Cheese for dinner. Total coincidence. The Alton Brown recipe, with generic orange American cheddar. It was very good. With broccoli and a salad. My daughter took her broccoli out when it got barely warm (CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!), but my wife and I let ours cook until it softened a bit. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

So what are you objecting to? Annatto is not artificial, so you can't be objecting to an artificial color. And since you allow rennet, then you're not objecting to things which weren't in the milk to start off with. So if you allow additional ingredients (which you do, obviously), and you allow natural ingredients (which annatto is), then what's wrong with yellow cheese? Or is this just one of those "I was young and dumb" things? Bob |

Correct. Just as fenugreek is used in "imitation" (rather than "artificial") maple syrup. These are natural colorings and flavorings; they're not artificial; they're merely fake. Steve |

It's just that I've personally met some people who behaved like that only on usenet for the entertainment value, and were actually really nice people in "real life". It seems to be a usenet thing. What irony... that makes you the most sardonic creep here... and don't take that literally, you don't have knees! LOL The mick is also in the bottom 10 percentile of the usenet ignoranus pool... someone whose only purpose for being here is bashing out his bitterness on people is dumber than shit for advertising that he has no legs... did we really need to visualize your freak showedness on a cooking group... NOT! You deserve every KICK in your vulvacanized pie hole you get. Why is it on a COOKING group do we need to know who's ***, who's shacking up, who's screwing a shmoozlin, who's a tri-polar, who has false teeth, etc., like if yer gonna advertise the most intimate details of your personal life in a public arena then you have no right to expect any consideration when you bash anyone for anything when you yourself are admitedly more a freak than those you harrass. I don't really want to read anyones intimate personal beeswax here, save that for private email. I don't even want to read who emails who... that tells me who never to trust. I learned a long, LONG time ago never to tell anything intimately personal about my life in email, yoose all have FLD... and Flapping Lips sink ships... email is much too easy to edit and forward. In usenet too many people you think are your friends one day will the next day stab you in the back in a heartbeat. Like Om and the dwarf, not for a second do I believe they don't sit around discussing me and plotting strategy for setting me up... and then right here in this thread one lies and the other swears to it... comparing my cooking to the sqwartz doesn't stroke my ego one bit, he'll never be in my class, in fact with what you gleaned from me you are a much better cook than he will ever be. |

Actually he's a total moron, he's yet to post anything culinarilly utile, all he does is post boastfully of things he has never done (keyboard cooking) and as you say attack picayune typos demonstrating far more ignorance than the legitimate errors of ordinary honest folk's posts. The baboon ass face is such a newbie liar that the shmooslin is too embarrassed to be seen associating with that filthy douchebag... even in his rfc mug pic he looks like a common coolie laborer that hasn't bathed in a year... no way is that swarthy, that's stinko lubricious schmutz... no real woman would welcome those grubby meat hooks on her body... only a brain dead shmooslin would tolerate that abusive creep touching her parts and now she's gone, good on her. |

You'd serve the list best (if you care) by offering constructive rather than destructive criticism dear. ;-) -- Peace! You're the one who got personal, not me. You're hitting me with semantics based on studies made after that period. The decisions I made in the early '70s were based on knowledge of the times, which was hyperactivity in children was due to synthetic dyes in foods like cheese and cola. Those theories were disproven in the '80s, but YOU - the one who has no children and who was married for the first time just a few years ago *judges* me about decisions *I* made as a caring adult with my first child in the early '70s? I laugh at you! You're the idiot, not me. > > You seem to have some bug up your butt telling you that I've suddenly turned > abusive, and that's coloring your perception of everything I wrote. Your harping will only make things worse, I assure you. Hm. I haven't alluded even once to killing you, but you do know that when I get fed up with you that's what I do. So, I suggest that *you* kill file me because it seems I'm the one who is setting you off. So, it's up to you to kill me. Do it. I dare you. Bet you can't, 'cause you're addicted to me... besides, I know you and you're not this ugly online personality. OK, now I've said it. You're a nice guy. <smooches> ![]() -- I love cooking with wine. I laugh at you! You're > the idiot, not me. Simple fact for a simpleton: ANNATTO IS NOT SYNTHETIC. You made a decision based on ignorance in those long-bygone days, and now you're attempting to defend that decision with more ignorance. It's all well and good to care for your children, but you have to educate yourself so that you can make GOOD decisions about their care. Case in point: Parents who feed their toddlers a vegan diet are malnourishing those kids because the nutritional needs of kids are different from the nutritional needs for adults. But the parents THINK that they're doing what's best, and it's all for the good of the children. >> You seem to have some bug up your butt telling you that I've suddenly >> turned abusive, and that's coloring your perception of everything I >> wrote. So, you're now trying to tell me that synthetic dyes were *not* used back in the '70s? How lame is that? Do you think they use annatto now just out of the goodness of their wholesome hearts? Yeah, right and that's why McDonald's stopped using beef fat too. > Case in point: Parents who feed their toddlers a > vegan diet are malnourishing those kids because the nutritional needs of > kids are different from the nutritional needs for adults.
