Man, you should make her put up or shut up. And if she cant, she has to buy
you a new kitchen tool. That's the way I would play it. :-)

You like eating better than she likes cooking?

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

No, it's more that I like cookinig as much as she likes sleeping.

Duh, so she can *say* that she likes to cook. Saying and doing are
two different things.

Hunger.

This whole discussion is kind of silly. Whether you go to a rock
concert, opera or symphony concert; 99% of the audience isn't there to
learn how to be a musician. They are just there to listen.

As my Mother used to say, "Who is 'she'? The cat's mother, maybe?"

It's a short thread Cathy, pay attention!

When we were 19, it was more like put *out* or shut up.

I'd rather have the bedroom stuff than the kitchen stuff.

There once was a study that said people who just *thought about*
exercising for 30 minutes a day fro 30 lost weight and toned up
their muscles.

Keeping that in mind, think of what watching FoodTV all day would do
to her cooking.

Heh. My Mom used to come down on me like a ton of bricks if I started a
sentence with, "She did this" or "She said that". Who the heck
is "she"? Doesn't "she" have a name? Just a sign of bad manners and/or
disrespect in her opinion - and in mine too.

And I still don't know who "she" is. Could be Bulka's mother, aunt,
sister, wife, SO, third cousin twice removed...

Well, yes. To me at least. I like to think that (most) Usenet posters
are people, not just 'its'.

Wow, I've never before heard of anyone who didn't believe in personal pronouns.

Was your mother by any chance a first-generation immigrant or first-generation
English speaker?

"She" has an antecedent. The antecedent is the person to whom "she" refers. If
more than one person was mentioned in the preceding sentence, there are rules by
which you can determine which one is the antecedent. There are no "bad manners"
or "disrespect" involved, just fluency in the language.

If you've used a person's name in one sentence, it generally sounds quite
stilted to repeat it in the following sentence.

Now properly quoting out of context is another matter altogether ...

Hardly. My Mother is from the United Kingdom - and her ancestors were
born and raised there too - long before the Mayflower hit the water...

Oh, was there a "preceding sentence" in the subject line of the OP?
Guess I missed that.

So, based on your analysis of the original post, which I'm *sure* you
have carefully read (cough - cough - sputter - sputter), just who is the
antecedent of "she"? And do you think she will whip Bulka's ass when
you identify her?

:-)

I don't know about it being European but my dad was the big enforcer
of the "she" thing. I come from a litter of four boys and whenever
someone said "she" we all knew my it was my mother. My dad would go
crazy. Although he's a wise man he's not educated. I assume it's
something his dad didn't like in reference to the ladies. It was in
his eyes somehow disrespectful.
