This type of message is continually on another group. They're never
heard from again, so I don't know the point of posting. I have a
batch of European recipes I can send, though.

You'd be right, Dora.

Just did a Profile search on "idugall" and it came up......

"Sorry, we could not find any information on "

It's really unfortunate that google groups encourages people to believe that
they are "joining" something when they post to a usenet group.

But hi, anyway....and good luck.

What does the google usenet interface have to do with private google
groups? Absolutely nothing.

Because these people have no idea what usenet is. You don't have to "join"
anything to post here. You do have to "join" something on Google to do
anything other than look stuff up using the search engine.

? I don't know what that means. Besides, in my experience is that
people who introduce themselves make that their first and last post
here.

I've tried to tracjk down the source of these posts, but they come
from all over the world and can be found in all groups.

Almost all of them contain the phrase "looking forward to hearing
about...". (which isn't proper English, not that I'm an expert...)

Have you ever used Google to post to usenet? You don't have to "join"
anything.

You do however, have to sign up to get a Google account... which could
loosely be taken as having to 'join' the Google 'family'.

I try not to use Google to post. But yes, I have. I had to create an
account when I was travelling and posting from PC's in hotel business
centers. You don't have to use gmail but you have to have an account. I
call that "joining"

All you need is a gmail address to post from there. That's not
"joining" anything. Creating a gmail account isn't remotely "joining"
as in "Hi! I just joined this group". Nowhere does anything say
"join this group".

Only the most needy of people who just have to "belong" to something -
people who are indoctrinated in webtv, foodbanter or email lists (who
does that anymore - I couldn't stand them when they were popular)
would say anything like "I just joined" in connection to usenet.

Maybe that person posted that message somewhere in the darker parts of
usenet and the followups scarred her for life?

I've told you before, you don't have to have a gmail account to post from
Google. You *do* have to create an account (I was using my Bellsouth email
addy, now long defunct). That's "joining" IMHO, if you have to "sign up".
And then I used Google GROUPS to read and post to rfc while on the road.
Gawd, you're stubborn.

At any rate, we will probably never hear from this poster again. And yes, I
do have recipes from Europe

Be prepared to learn as much or more about group members as you do about
cooking. If you're OK with that, welcome aboard.

I've always been ok with that. :-) It's one of the special things I
enjoy about usenet! It's sort of a community...

Well, I think you are. Google "groups" for usenet is just a usenet
portal. You restated that said *you* didn't even need a gmail account
to post, so what the HELL about that means you have to "JOIN" anything
to post from Google??? God, Jill. You sound like a freekin newbie.

Send the cabal (TINC) a cashier's check for US$50.00 made out to "cash"
(you can just send it to my Email address and I'll make sure they get
it) and they'll send you all the inside scoop on Gloria. You wouldn't
believe some of the stuff they have on her!

Get over it, SF. You have to create an "account" to do anything with
Google. That's "joining". Meanwhile have you seen anything else from this
poster? Nope. And you won't.
