Default Ping Jean B CSI: Brown Sauce :)

We ate at the same Vietnamese restaurant that started the Sauce Mystery.
Mystery solved!

It's plum sauce! Not something I've ever bought. But having looked at
sauces in the Asian supermarkets prior to lunch, the colour is correct
and it would be sweet enough. Given that it's dispensed in squeezy
bottles, guessing that it is supplied by the barrel full

really! Was it brown, Arri? The sauce I had was brown--and the
last time my daughter had [Chinese] plum sauce, it was clear,
kind-of honey-colored. I am going to have to traipse through the
markets again--and ask.

You get a gold star!

If the restaurant was Vietnamese and the sauce was brown and sweet, it
was probably hoisin sauce. They usually serve soy sauce, sriracha and
hoisin sauce at the table.

It was brown and opaque.

The honey-coloured sauce is often called 'duck sauce', which we do buy.
The plum sauce we saw in the shops was dark; the duck sauce lighter
coloured.

TY! Now I can move up to CSI 2 LOL.
Could have had a job as a CSI locally. Unfortunately, as part of the job
had to go out to 'scene of crime' and look at the bodies in situ. *That*
bit isn't for me. I'm a squint/labrat. A body on a slab wouldn't bother
me at all.

Except that it wasn't LOL. Otherwise would never have questioned it.

Hehe. Well, I have a hankering to go back to Lowell, Mass. for
more Cambodian food. I will still try to get someone to show me
what that sauce is being meted out from. Still, yes, you have
advanced.
