Default Recipe Spice card

I found this in Albertson's today. A bubble pack/recipe card that has
all the pre-measured spices needed to make the recipe.
http://i43.tinypic.com/8wa0i1.jpg

I think this is a great idea. Hopefully this will help budding new
cooks learn about spices and that there is life beyond pre-packaged
food while they are building their spice racks.

I think there were about 5 different choices available.

I think that's a great idea, and not just for beginning cooks. I'll
keep an eye out for it. Thanks for the head's up, koko!

I love the idea! All that bubble pack -- what'd it cost?

Looks like a good idea! I need to tell my SO to look for these. He's
trying to get into doing his own cooking, for health reasons. He's clueless
about herbs and spices. I spend hours on the phone with him walking him
through recipes

Is this to practice for stepping up to Hamburger Helper? I'll have to look
at the price too, I bet you are paying a fortune compared to regular packs.

If it gets people to cook rather than buy fast food crap, who cares? I
taught my SO to make his *own* hamburger helper. But he's generally
clueless about combining herbs and spices with whatever he's cooking.
Something like this would be very helpful to him.

i thought of hamburger helper, too. but i would hope this tastes better.

it seems to be a step *up* from h.h. to me, though. isn't h.h. one
'seasoning packet'? at least this gives you the concept of separate
spices used in concert. it could be a positive step for some people.

(yes, i'm sure you pay through the nose on a per-unit basis for the spices.
but the canisters of mccormick's stuff ain't cheap, either. and it looks
like the recipe card on the back can be detached and saved if you want to
go that route later.)

Very cool!!

They'd be excellent for taking bush/camping/caravaning.

Wonder how long before they get over here??

I've seen those too! I thought they would be good for one of those
recipes you want to try once to see if you liked it.

After that, you could opt to buy them in larger sizes.

They cost $1.50 each. Each card had 6 spices on it along with the
recipe. The cashier told me she made the quesadilla recipe and it was
really good.

No one has yet mentioned what they cost. If very cheap (and I doubt it)
it might be worthwhile, but you can get dozens of uses out of a small
jar of spices, for many, many recipes. Once you make the spice card
recipe, the spices are gone and you have to resupply.

I haven't seen these in the stores. What do they cost?

I can think of several reasons to buy them myself. I would buy them
when on vacation and doing my own cooking, like when I rent a vacation
condo. I am going to look for them soon so I can include them in a
bridal shower gift.

I haven't seen them either, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right
place. I was looking at the bottles and not really noticing what was
around them... although those blister packs look big enough to not
ignore if they were there.

I rather like that one. Have you ever tried the ginger cheese
pie? It is VERY good.
