You must be a Yankee. :-) Yoo-Hoo is a chocolate drink which, evidently,
has yet to reach the shores of the Northwest. Some folks call it a
chocolate soda but come on - it ain't carbonated! You probably shouldn't
drink it if you're a Yankee over the age of 12, or 25 if you're down
South. :-)

*Northern* California now.

Jaffa's are (IMHO) the most disgusting thing around. A chocolate ball
covered in an orange flavoured red shell. Used for many, many years by
errant children on their own at the old picture theatres with wooden
floors, to roll down the aisles.

They are what have put me off of *any* orange and chocolate mix, for life.

I can't remember why, I've probably blacked the particular incident out of
my memory bank, but they have.

Probably because the chocolate tasted so disgustingly.

Sorry about that. For those who *aren't* turned off by orange and
chocolate, these are wonderful:

I candy my own orange rind and dip it in chocolate. Works for me.

Corporate headquarters is in New York and one of the two plants is in
Joisey where it was invented, so don't blame the South for it.

We often get those for Christmas. :-) They also come in other flavors.

I'd love to see some pics of that. I've never tried making candied
orange rind.

I am intrigued that anyone would find one of my favorite flavor
combinations disgusting. IMHO, orange/chocolate is one of the great
discoveries of all time, like strawberries and cream, coconut and
raspberry and, of course, the Spanish discovery of sweetening chocolatl.

I can't say that orange and chocolate is my favourite, but I do like it.
My son hates that combination.

Rinds (any citrus - I just put grapefruit rind in) are like bones...
they gather in a plastic baggie in the freezer until there are enough
to do something with them.

We have tired of parmiggiano and these days prefer the taste of a good
peccorino romano.

I can remember walking into Nicastro's when it was a block from where I now
live and being overwhelmed by the pungent odour of hard cheese to the point
where I started salivating involuntarily.

Not even those chocolate covered orange jellies you buy at the candy
store? Mmmm.

You are correct that Yoo-Hoo does not have it's origins in the South but
the South has embraced it as surely as Hawaii has Spam. Why spoil a
beautiful thing with the truth? :-)

Sounds good, I wonder if I could do that with grapefruit. Hope you

Then there are Jaffa Cakes...sponge cake, topped with chocolate and a
'smashing orangey bit' LOL. Used to gobble those up by the box full

Working on a substitute, as they aren't available locally. For the
'orangey bit' going to try orange fruit leather.

Grapefruit and orange are different enough that I don't think it would be
very good. I candied the peel from a pumelo (like a grapefruit on steroids)
a couple months ago, but decided against dipping it in chocolate. It might
be worth dipping in white chocolate. I did dip candied kumquats in
chocolate, but kumquats are much more like oranges than grapefruit are.
