Hehehe. cookbooks, websearches, and print recipes get combined in my
house. If I want to make something that I haven't done before, I'll
track down at least 5 versions of it in various media, compare, and
intermingle them to obtain something that sounds like it'll be good.
Usually, it is.

The Internet doesn't really affect me, because
I rarely cook from a recipe. Almost everything
I make from scratch is my own creation, and
I don't need a recipe to tell me how to make it.
I usually change them a little each time, in a
process of incremental improvement. I would
only use a recipe as a starting point. The
last time I followed a recipe was Lidia
Bastianich's spinach gnudi, though I don't
know if I'll repeat that one.

By the way, you're running Windows, right?
Your time automatically advanced by an hour
when Windows expected the time to change,
but Congress moved it to appease the people
who make BBQ equipment and supplies.

Still use them all, but I've shifted from cookbooks to the internet. It was
20/80 and is now 80/20. Mostly, if I want to make a particular meal or what
to do with a new veggie I want to try I do a search and get some ideas, then
do what I want. I do keep an extensive file of recipes but instead of t
ping from a book, it is probably copy and paste from a web site now. The
rare printed recipe I want is scanned and then OCR does the rest.

I'd say it's about 50/50 for me. And I'm creating a "cookbook" of the
recipes I pull off the internet and like -- I slip the printout into a
sheet protector in a three-ring binder -- so the internet recipes are
referred to in printed form now, too.

I was looking for a recipe which I had stored in an old index card
recipe box and was thinking how long it had been since I looked in it
last time. While I do still tear out recipes from magazines, I seldom
use cookbooks anymore, opting for Internet recipe sites where I have
created recipes "boxes" on those sites.

Do you find yourself referring less to your cookbooks, recipe boxes
and mainly using the Internet?

I find a great many of the recipes I use on Internet sites. I do not
however use any site's "recipe box" feature, rather I copy and save
recipes I like. Ones I make with some frequency are printed and in a
small stack in the cabinet with my various cookbooks.

No. In fact, I'm redoing my tried and trues, writing it out in chron
order. No nasty surprises at the end when it calls for the yolk I
threw out earlier. I'm doing them in with large print for old eyes -
one to a sheet, will be in plastic sleeves. Indexed too.

If I do get something off the Internet, it gets rewritten too if I
want to use it again.

I keep most of my recipes in a computer folder called "Food". Those that
I have tested and will make again are in a sub-folder called "Tested"
(of course :-) I try to remember to copy all my popular recipes from my
cook books to Tested. My usual practice is to print out a fresh copy
whenever I need a recipe and then I don't need to worry about spills and
splashes.

My recipe files are electronic. They come from a variety of sources.

I've felt a little guilty about that but the paper I use in my printer
is made from recycled materials.

I finally did this with all my printed out recipes. I have two binders,
one for sweet and another for savory. I was driving myself crazy digging
through piles of printouts. I am much happier now.

Yes, but mainly because I can't even GET to my cookbooks, which
are buried behind heaps of other cookbooks. That will change
soon, at which point I will see how much I look at my cookbooks.

Recipe boxes? I never used one. I do have many notebooks full of
recipes, and four file cabinet drawers full of printouts. I
stopped doing printouts of all my saved files. That is both good
and bad, because some of the esoteric sites disappear.

Mainly the internet. I have a lot of recipes stored on my computer
now, so it's a second followed by recipe cards. I rarely crack a
cookbook anymore but I know as soon as I thin them out, I'll need what
I don't have.

I do sometimes forget the name of a recipe but I have found that Google
desktop search finds recipes if I can remember a few things about them.
For example searching on
soup jicama

instantaneously brings up my recipe for gazpacho and also lists a number
of posts on this topic that I have made to rec.foods.cooking.

I need to remember to use that more!
