Mutant Message Down Under - Marlo Morgan 1994

A fictionalized, romanticized "based on a true story" novel of a woman
from Kansas City going on walkabout and changing her life.

She tries to share her culture with her new aboriginal friends. Their
reactions when she explained cake frosting and demonstrated gravy:

On gravy: "Instead of living the truth, Mutants (the civilized world)
allow circumstances and conditions to bury universal law under a
mixture of convenience, materialism, and insecurity."

On frosting: "It seemed to symbolize how much time, in the one-
hundred-year Mutant life span, is spent in artificial, superficial,
temporary, decorative, sweetened pursuits. So very few actual moments
of one's life are spent discovering who we are, and our eternal
beingness."
