Default Why do you think this happened?

I used to cook my brown basmati rice (imporetd) in a pyrex bowl using
the sensor feature specifically for rice on the microwave. IIt
requires to runt he cycle two times. I use twice as much water in the
first cycle and then add little bit of water (like less than 1/2 of
the rice) to the rice that still would have some water left for the
second cycle. I didn't put all the water to prevent overflowing too
much.

Recently, I bought a microwave rice cooker so that I don't have to use
"Rice" feature on the microwave and run the second cycle. I use 3
times as much water as indicated in the manual and use a little less
time than specified knowing that I had to reduce the time to prevent
overcooking.

My experince is that cooking with "rice" feature works better. Why do
you think that is? Any thought? Next time, I will reduce the time
just a bit. If that doesn't resolve the issue (of not getting the rice
the way I am used to it), I should just try cooking with this
microwave rice cooker but using "rice" feature (sensor program) of my
microwave, running two cycles.

I propound that the microwave, when this feature is on, senses the
desired amount of moisture-absorbtion into the rice, and so
that is why it works.

But me, I just cook rice in a pan on the stove....

I think you should use the directions that come with the manual, since
they are specific to the rice cooker. Don't mess around with the
directions until you have made it at least once... Since you have
played around with the directions, no wonder you don't like it as
well.
Try what they suggest first....instead of using more water than they
suggest, use what they say to use, etc.

Because you know it better. Keep experimenting with the rice cooker and
you'll figure out its quirks.
