Weird. I haven't seen a 5-lb bag of sugar in a long time and I've never
seen a 3-lb bag. All I see are 4-lb bags and 10-lb bags. Huh.

Aldi only sells 5 pound bags. (but it's been a couple of months
since I checked)

I've been making more of a point to buy cane sugar rather than beet
sugar (or un-labeled bags) for some odd reason, but also because I want
to support the southern sugar industries in particular.
Domino sugar comes out of Savannah (The factory experienced a horrific
explosion a couple of years ago and I briefly took care of one of their
burn patients as he was being flown to the burn center)

Well, come on down Grasshopper, it's getting on to jamming and jelling
season here in SW Loosyanna and Kroger is stocking sucar in 10 and 25 lb
bags at the moment. I generally use two or three of the ten pounders
during the canning season as I have no place to park a 25-pound bag.

I have not seen any three-pound bags either, they do sometimes stock
two-pounders though, I guess for the folks that live alone.

I have been waiting for sugar to go on sale to stock up for jam making
this summer, but it wasn't on much of a sale anywhere around here before
the holidays. (It usually is quite a bit cheaper before Easter,
Thanksgiving, and Christmas.)

I've never seen beet sugar here in the northeast and I've never seen 4 pound
bags either. Must be a regional thing.

If the bag doesn't say "Cane Sugar" on it, I assume it is beet sugar.
I may be wrong. <shrug>

No, you are right. Cane sugar is more expensive so it's clearly labeled
to justify the price. If it just says "sugar" it's probably beet.

I buy beet sugar to support Michigan sugarbeet farmers. Buy local!
