Default Cold dreary Saturday

I should be out prepping the garden, but it's too cold and wet and
nasty outside. So I'm making a big pot of navy bean soup (use up
the ham stock I have in the freezer, plus some slightly wilted
carrots etc.)

Also rendering a bunch of beef fat scraps that were in the freezer.
I'll use the tallow to make a batch of soap tonight. I can finally
find lye at the hardware stores again -- it totally disappeared for
about 2 years.

(do you see a theme developing with the freezer?)

Guess I should get started cleaning the basement, it's not gonna
clean itself. It's more fun messing around in the kitchen. I
should bake some bread...
