Mothers' Day
 

Both of my kids are coming tonight for dinner with their families and
breakfast tomorrow (Dear Son will cook that) and a trip to the Denver
Zoo. It's a nice way to spend Mothers' Day, IMO.

Menu will be:
cheese and crackers, smoked salmon
grilled filet mignons
sauteed mushrooms in wine sauce
shredded potato casserole
green veg to be decided
green salad with strawberries, goat cheese, candied pecans and a
sweetish vinaigrette (my favorite)
choice of chocolate pudding or homemade fresh rhubarb pie with
whipped cream

Happy Mothers' Day to all you mothers out there.

Our son came down for the weekend. He has to leave early in the
afternoon, so he is taking his mother to a brunch buffet at a local
restaurant. I can't go because I am volunteering at the art show, but we
are having a nice dinner at home tonight. I have some nice strip steaks
that are going on the BBQ in a few minutes. We have a nice bunch of
fresh local asparagus. I offered to make a rhubarb pie but neither he
or my wife like rhubarb. Their loss.

Sounds lovely! I hope your family time is wonderful.

My DH's taking me and the girls to a nice brunch downtown at the
"swanky" hotel.

The three of us love asparagus, and we all like brussels sprouts. I will
take a pass on okra. Boiled parsnips, lima beans and turnip are
objectionable IMO. My wife detests beets.

Beck and La Kid are here; dinner Friday night was lobster tails and
t-bone, grilled asparagus, mixed greens salad, fruit salad, green peas,
ice cream. I boiled the lobster tails, finding that to be more
satisfactory than baking them as I had last time I prepared them.

Lunch yesterday was ham sandwiches with soup made from 3 different cans
of Progresso, leftover tomatoey rice, some green beans, corn, peas; and
beef broth. The other three had been out and came in cold and hongry.

The Girls made a strike on a local nursery and garden place - they have
beautiful hanging baskets ‹ and after dinner La Kid and I planted a
couple pots for her mom.

Dinner last night was chicken wings from the deli counter ‹ shoot me.

This morning we're driving out to our country place west of the cities
for brunch. And then we'll stroll the gardens and admire the plantings.
Should be fun. I haven't told Himself about the annual spring plant
sale taking place ‹ parking is going to be a bear. :-) I like to
surprise him. :-)

Fun!! I love swanky places once in a while. A chance to get gussied

No, thanks. Your girls will be adults soon enough and I hope they
choose to live close enough to spend family time with you.

Dinner was perfect. Son made Creme Brulee French Toast casserole for
breakfast and it was wonderful. Then we all met at the Zoo and had a
nice day although it was pretty crowded. The weather was perfect.

To top off the day, as we emerged from one of the exhibits, there was a
peacock who strutted around for a few minutes then spread his tail and
kept turning in a circle, in full glory for over 10 mminutes. All the
little kids were so impressed and cameras were clicking all around.

It was a memorable weekend for me.
