Default Recipe Req -- Apple Pancake

A local restaurant to me once made the most magnificent apple pancake to be
had in the Western 48. Alas, like all good things, this iconic dish was
unable to maintain the standards necessary to retain its crown. I've
attempted several recipes in the past attempting to recapture the magic but
seem to have purged each failure so I have none available to review.

Does anyone have an apple pancake recipe that they're willing to share.

Many thanks!

I'd just add some chopped apple with a bit of cinnamon to an already good
pancake recipe. What was special about these?

If I just wanted an apple topping, that's what I would've asked for; that's
very easy to make.

An apple pancake is baked with the apple topping added at a later stage in
the process.

I posted a message in reply to this request but can't seem to see any
postings with my newsreader, even though it did say 'message posted'. Just
so you know I can see messages, cannot see my own postings but if you can
get thread replies etc, that's ok then since I can see other people's
postings.

So you mean the Apfelpfannkuchen, where you "bake" half of the dough on
the stove, then add the peeled, cored, sliced (and optionally marinated)
apples, pout the rest of the dough over it and finist it in the oven ?

They have way more egg in the recipe than normal pancakes, and they
are baked in the oven (at least finished in the oven)

Not sure if I have a recipe...

Are you talking about plain flat pancakes or Dutch Baby style (puffy,
like Yorkshire Pudding)?

I've never made it at home (The Original Pancake House occasionally
brings one to our table when we are waiting for something else and they
have made too many ahead, and it's delicious.)

I did Google both Dutch Apple Pancake and German Apple Pancake and
got way too many hits, many from pretty well-known sources.

Good luck in your search.

Today's breakfast: Dear Son made Creme Brulee French Toast casserole
last night, cooked it this AM. It was yummy.

Well no shit. Did I give you an apple topping recipe? No. If an apple is,
as you state, baked with apple topping it is not a topping but an
ingredient. I add other fruits to the batter and I'd do apples the same way.

I love it when you have to drag out the real question from the OP. That
is what I asked you in the first place and you went on about apple topping
for some reason.

Bull-****in'-shit, you horse's ass! You posted this nonsense, "I'd just add
some chopped apple with a bit of cinnamon to an already good pancake
recipe."

That's nothing close to answering any form of the question I asked other
than being the normal prick you tend to be.

Yay! Ol' Ranger must be rip-roaring drunk again, and ready to start a
dumb flame fest where he gets to be the top blowhard.

Your reading comprehension problems are showing. Yes, I stated where I'd
start, but I also asked what was different about what you had. You did not
answer that, but instead said something about a topping recipe that was
never mentioned. Finally, a half dozen posts later you did give the needed
information that is needed to give any answer to your original question.

Yeah, I'm a bit intolerant of people asking for information and being so
vague that the question cannot be answered. I hope you've been drinking so
at least you have an excuse. Had you asked for a baked pancake recipe in
the first place I'd have given the one we sometimes use. Hmmm, haven't
had them for a while. Maybe next weekend.

You're "intolerant" alright but it's from a late stage of a specific
mental disorder.

As far as you providing a recipe, I doubt very seriously you have one
that meets more than a quick pull from recipezaar or cooks.com.

More's the pity of you not "trusting" a restaurant to make one.
Wouldn't enjoying that much sugar all at once severely affect your
diabetes?

This is the one that my wife likes to make once in a while, but the
apples are added as a topping after the pancake is cooked. This one is
tried and true and delicious.

Sorry, but I don't use either of those web sites. This one, however, should
satisfy your curiosity.

Puffed Apple Pancakes

Ingredients:
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

4 large eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 golden delicious apple, thinly sliced
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice

warm maple syrup

Preheat oven to 425°. Divide melted butter between four one-cup baking
dishes.

In a bowl combine eggs, milk, and flour until blended. Batter will be
lumpy.

In another bowl peel and thinly slice apples. Toss apple slices with brown
sugar and lemon juice until coated.

Divide batter evenly among baking dishes. Arrange several apple slices in a
spoke pattern in the center of batter in each dish.

Bake pancakes for 15-20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Top with
warm maple syrup.

Serves 4.

Ok, finally got my newsreader problem fixed. The German Apple Pancake is my
bet that it is the recipe you are looking for. I love these while in Germany
years ago and still make it every now and then for Sunday brunch. Willing to
share recipe. Let me know.
