Default mushrooms forever....well, almost

I had to leave town in a hurry. I had button mushrooms in the fridge,
only a few days from th emarket and still too good to toss. Having
nothing to lose, I put em in a bronw paper bag, and then into a
ziplock.
Two weeks later.....the paper bag was very moist, but the mushrooms
were fine, after I peeled away that outer skin.

HTH

By the by, I ate at a fantastic resto - good selection, attentive
waiter who didn't call us 'guys', no loud music, extensive wine list,
real cloth table 'linens'. Even the butter was served as a duo - one
plain scoop of whipped butter, the other drizzled with EVO and crushed
red pepper. For dessert -after my three cheese ravioli and an
eggplant-asparagus rolatini with plenty of fresh tomato sauce- I
shared the lava cake with a friend. It was served as a scoop of
vanilla ice cream in one small bowl, the lava cake separate, and a
finely sliced strawberry and some red raspberries with which to
decorate, and a sprig of mint. All served on a large oblong dish.
Wished I'd had a camera. 5 stars for taste and presentation. Meal for
four came to $140 with tax and tip - not cheap, but def. worth it.

I was joking of course. That was my way of pointing out that you
didn't name the restaurant or where it was :-)

$140.00??? That's $35.00 per. What maims you that you'd spend that
kind of money in a restaurant? Shit. For $35.00 I could make food
that would make your offal taste like wonderbar.

$35 is nothing. Why are you so upset? About a million people
spend at least $35 (and much, much more) on a meal on a Saturday
night.

Dear Moose,

The times DOES come when you wish to be waited on in style and served
a decent meal. Plus, I believe in supporting these independent
restaurants. Plus, I was treating someone I hadn't seen in over a
year and was in a distant state. Plus it was his birthday. Should I
have hauled the couple to BK or tried to make them a meal in their
house? Which would YOU do?

The whole experience WAS 'wunderbar'.

I don't know why you're bothering. Moose is obviously only trying to make
him/herself feel superior by running people down. The sane posters to RFC
know that $35 a head is Not Unreasonable for a slap-up meal in a
restaurant and in some markets is A Really Good Deal. Sure, for $35 in
materials each, you can do something really amazing, but that's not the
point.

If you must respond (and these people live to provoke a response), don't
play to the script by attempting to engage an obvious flamer/troller in
discussion (there is no possibility for discussion because for the other
person "it's all about me me me"); I recommend either the cool
"thank you for sharing" or pointing and laughing.

ObAwesomeFineDiningDeal: Contigo in San Francisco has some of the
best food I've eaten out, and if you go on Sunday through Wednesday, you
can pick four items off their menu for the amazing-for-the-quality-and-
location price of $35. This beats some famous local restaurants prix
fixe deal, because the other places will choose the food for you and
Contigo lets you roll your own.

I'm OK now. I just went to my weekly counselling session. Our group
is called:
'survivors of rec.food.cooking'. We try hard, and some of us
succeed. I'm a success story myself. Hi. My name is Moose and I'm a
survivor of rec.food.cooking. I repeat it over and over and it
helps. It's called positive reinforcement and/or NLP.

As a survivor of rec.food.cooking I can only add that you are
correct. I'll behave in the future as I have seen the light.
