That sandwich looks as though whoever made it was counting on it being
consumed with a whole pile of alcohol. The sandwich is bar food meant
to be eaten with liquids what's drunk and wholesome. I'd eat it, but
first let me get wet.

One would think "Lou" would have a higher tolerance for disgusting looking
things, assuming he looks in the mirror at least once a day.

Every dago street fair in the US serves saw-seege with with mata
sauce, onions n' peppers on grilled 'talian bread... and fer 50¢ x-try
will add the mozz to make it parm. Every decent guinea
restaurant/pizzeria the same. Personally I prefer they hold the mata
sauce.

Don't blame that mess on Chicago. It's a burnt sandwich. I've lived
in Chicago or the burbs my whole life and never seen anything like
that. No cheese and never broiled or whatever you did. Did you cut
the sausage in half or do you have two on there or what's up with
that?

It doesn't matter what the ingredients are or how you eat it. It's
burnt. Sorry but when bread is black it's burnt. I've burnt shit too
but I'm sure as hell not going to post a picture of it.

I dunno. Burnt stuff goes in the garbage. I don't do it often
luckily. I know some people like charcoal black hot dogs too. I like
just a bit but too much is over the top. Like the sausage picture.

Looks good. Glad to see it's on a properly grilled bun and not a limp
chunk of warm bread.

I looked at it again... that bread is well toasted but definitely not
burnt. I happen to like dark toast. Burnt toast is black, sets my
smoke detector off. Even if the edges are burnt I scrape them into
the sink, no biggie. That's a nice dago sammiche, probably not fast
food quality (what you're used to) but for home cooking to order it's
perfect... at the local pizzaria they already know I want everything
cooked "high brown".

LOL!! Over here the ubiquitous sausage on bread is a staple for
fundraisers.

Everywhere you go on a Saturday or Sunday, different groups will be out
and about around the shopping centers with their BBQ's raging, mountains
of onions being cooked (*that* smell draws everyone in!!) and their
(usually) insipid sausages sizzling away.

Which is why it's called a 'sausage sizzle'.

Not as fancy as piedmonts...... usually just a sausage, some grilled
onion, and your choice of sauce/mustard, and usually slapped on a piece of
equally insipid white bread. If they go 'gourmet', they'll have some 'no
name' brand grated cheese on hand....... or even some wholemeal bread.

Like Koko, I also like some things a bit crispy. <g> She gave a positive
review of my memorial day BBQ'd chops that were a bit "crispy" around
the edges.

They were delicious...

Truthfully, I looked at the picture and my first reaction was "that
looks gross! it's all burnt and greasy". And then I added "probably
tasted good, though". So I can see both sides.

Yeah, I've been trying not to be so "black and white" in my old age.
Cancer mellows a person.... You finally figure out what's worth
arguing over and what's not. Fighting for your life: totally worth
it. Fighting over whether the sandwich is "well toasted" or "burnt"?
Not so much. :-)

I looked at both sides too... I looked at the picture again, for the
third time... it's only the exposed portion of the very top edge that
toasted to the dark side, from broiling the cheese. It would be the
same from most pizzarias. At firat glace it looks burnt all over but
it's only the very top edge that's a mite over done. the rest of the
bread isn't toasted at all. And the picture was taken with a lousy
camera.

Welcome back, Sheryl! Btw, I still use my old email addy only... I
found your note many months late and replied.
