I've lived in Chicago or the burbs my whole life and never seen anything like that. No cheese and never broiled or whatever you did. Did you cut the sausage in half or do you have two on there or what's up with that? Lou |

Even if the edges are burnt I scrape them into the sink, no biggie. That's a nice dago sammiche, probably not fast food quality (what you're used to) but for home cooking to order it's perfect... at the local pizzaria they already know I want everything cooked "high brown". |

Everywhere you go on a Saturday or Sunday, different groups will be out and about around the shopping centers with their BBQ's raging, mountains of onions being cooked (*that* smell draws everyone in!!) and their (usually) insipid sausages sizzling away. Which is why it's called a 'sausage sizzle'. Not as fancy as piedmonts...... usually just a sausage, some grilled onion, and your choice of sauce/mustard, and usually slapped on a piece of equally insipid white bread. If they go 'gourmet', they'll have some 'no name' brand grated cheese on hand....... or even some wholemeal bread. -- Peter Lucas Brisbane Australia A good friend would drive 30 miles at 2:00 am to bail you out of jail. Cancer mellows a person.... You finally figure out what's worth arguing over and what's not. Fighting for your life: totally worth it. Fighting over whether the sandwich is "well toasted" or "burnt"? Not so much. :-) |

And then I added "probably >tasted good, though". So I can see both sides. I looked at both sides too... I looked at the picture again, for the third time... it's only the exposed portion of the very top edge that toasted to the dark side, from broiling the cheese. It would be the same from most pizzarias. At firat glace it looks burnt all over but it's only the very top edge that's a mite over done. the rest of the bread isn't toasted at all. And the picture was taken with a lousy camera. Welcome back, Sheryl! Btw, I still use my old email addy only... I found your note many months late and replied. |
