.... An old KitchenAid mixer with a glass bowl! It works too.
There were two, and the first one I plugged in smelled like something was burning. That one had the bowl, beaters, and the metal thing that covers the hole for the attachments. I asked whether I could take the accoutrements and then did so. This one is missing the metal ring that is supposed to be on the outside of the aforementioned hole. I hope I can find one. I probably should have gotten the newer KA too. I think it may be a wee bit older than my own, but am not sure. They were only $25 each, and someone would have wanted it, I'm sure. -- Jean B. |

Your score is better than mine, but I'll add my find: a seventies looking manual orange juicer, the kind with the domed juicer screwed atop a glass jar. A few weeks ago, my son asked me how people get juice out of oranges. For fifty cents, now we have the answer. Tara |

"time saving devices"........by the time you plug them in, use them and clean them up you've used up more time than if you did it by hand, usually. I think we all have a pantry full of electric 'devices' that we seldom use....toys mostly. |

The Cuisinart Little Pro Plus gets more stuff out of each orange. Plus, if you're squeezing a bunch, it'll keep your hand from getting sore. I once squeezed a gallon of lime juice (77 limes) for a camping trip. Doing that be hand would have sucked. > > -- > Jean B. --Bryan |

Last Saturday I got a tabletop gadget that is meant for making fajitas with a round section for warming the tortillas. It has a round glass lid that can be used on both sides. I paid 4.00 cdn. It looks like it's never been used. After looking it up on the net I found out that it was missing the plastic framework ( mostly decorative, I think). I made burgers on the grill side and toasted the buns on the tortilla side. Tomorrow, fajitas. Love yard sales. Most of my small appliances were found at yard sales.....Sharon |

I had been checking craiglist, but they were still over $100. I have a few things that I make that would really be nice to have a good mixer, but I wasn't ready to spend that much yet. Then, about 2 years ago, I was looking for used cabinets. Our plumbing had backed up, and the limited cabinets were ruined. So, I was searching the craigslist ads to find some free or cheap cabinets that I could use to set up a new kitchenette. It took a few months, but I got a response to one of my wanted ads. A nice complete set of oak cabinets that look awesome. The only downside was that the old counter top had to be destroyed during the removal process. But I found a couple free counter tops a couple weeks later that worked perfectly. So, I have 10 feet of lower cabinets and 10 feet of upper cabinets. She had me come out to her house before they were removed to make sure that I liked them. The lower cabinets have pull out wire drawers. She also gave me her over the oven microwave. I gave my old one to my nephew, as this one is larger and nicer than mine was. I was so happy when I went to see them that I took her some of my salmon dip. We talked about it a little, and I said the only hard part is the mixing as I do it by hand. A couple weeks later, when the cabinets were ready to go, I went to pick them up. Apparently, she upgraded her Kitchen Aid mixer too, as she gave me her old one. For free! I was already so happy with the cabinets, and this was awesome. It is a 4 1/2 quart model, with the metal bowl, and 3 attachments. |

I'm contemplating an electric juicer, but a friend says she tried the KA one and the juice ran down her arm as she was reaming them. I have one of the aforesaid glass-bowled KA's, a B-3 IIRC. The metal disk that cover the attachment hole is the same throughout the years. At least, my attachments from the B-3 fit on the one I got over 10 years ago. The beaters and bowls don't fit, but the attachments do. How weird is that? maxine in ri |
