Here in southern Ontario beer and liquor stores used to be closed on
Sundays and bars were only allowed to sell alcohol if you also bought
food. When things started to loosen up in the 70s and there were more
bars opening on Sundays they had the token cheese and cracker plate.

The town I live in was dry until the late 70s and a liquor store opened
up,they sold beer there, but you had to take the empties back to the
John Deere dealership. A few years later they opened up a beer store.

In most places, beer is sold in the Beer Store and liquor and wine are
sold at the liquor store, which also sells beer. Wineries sell only
their own wines, and some of them have kiosks in malls and grocery
stores. Grocery stores do not sell beer wine and liquor. A few years ago
they started to allow a very limited number of convenience stores to
sell alcohol, but those are limited to rural areas.
