It also says if you don't they will lose the shine - not be as good at gliding a cookie sheet. I left them in, I don't bother oiling them or whatever someone said to do and I don't have problems with friction. <shrug> I'm sorry whoever it was had that problem with saggy oven racks, but that hasn't been my experience. -- Forget the health food. But those who bake would. That's very true. A regular oven depends a lot on convection, and gas ovens are designed to balance the radiant, conductive and convective heat. Foil screws that up. --Bryan |

Big woop. It's my oven. To be clear: When I described mine as shiny metal, I was describing what kind of racks are most likely supposed to be removed. Shiny metal as opposed to black porcelain/cast iron/whatever. I personally couldn't care less if my racks are shiny, as a matter of fact, I don't bother cleaning them at all. In my previous oven, the one where I assumed the racks stayed in, it's not that they bent or broke, I just noticed that when I put a heavy pot on them after that first cleaning, there was some give that there wasn't before. I assume that if I continued to put them through self-clean, they would deteriorate in strength. Maybe others would not notice the change, it was apparent to me. I just learned to read the manual before assuming anything. nancy |

She never reads the manual on anything, says that's my job and then I must teach her whatever she needs to know about the equipment. I have a friend who buys new stuff and then throws the manual away with the box, he says learning to use the new stuff is intuitive. Then he calls me a month later and asks where he can get a manual for it. Some people never learn. |

I've never had a problem with their equipment that they couldn't fix or have a spare part for. Now GE and their many brands they make, that's a different story. Brand new washing machine and the time knob doesn't work, called them to come and fix it over a month ago and no one has shown up. Went to Repair Parts Clinic.com, found a diagram, found the part number, ordered my own parts and fixed it myself. Sent the bill to the dealer to forward to GE, fat chance I'll ever see that seventy bucks. Ain't worth suing over so I'll just bad mouth them everywhere. |

It seems that it is my job to read the manual and then explain it to her. I keep all my manuals together in a file cabinet. Every once in a while I have to go through it to purge the old ones for things I no longer own. They come in handy. A few months ago I had a problem with my burr coffee grinder. It was sounding bogged down and nothing was coming out. Thanks to the troubleshooting chart I checked the little chute from the grinder to the cannister and saw that it was jammed with finely ground coffee. I stuck something in to clear it out and the thing worked great. |
