Default Watermelon Popsicles

We tried something new today. I mashed and blended the last of our
watermelon and poured the mash and juice into popsicle molds.

We just put these in the freezer. They are a lovely pink color. I'll
report back with a taste test tomorrow.

I nearly lived on a commercial version of that when I was pregnant in
Florida. I think they must have had some lemon juice in them because they
were high in vitamin C. They were just the only thing that didn't taste
dirty to me.

We used to buy watermelon sherbet years ago but I haven`t seen it in
grocery stores for at least 25 years. It was delicious. I tried making
some a few years ago and it was delicious. I had to fake it. I make a
simple syrup and added a bunch of seeded and strained watermelon and
then put it in the ice cream maker. It turned out nicely.

We used to have a place in town that sold all sorts of frozen fresh
fruit bars (watermelon was my favorite flavor). I really miss it.

Would that freeze at normal freezer temperatures?

Watermelon is mostly water, anyway - sounds good. My favorite
popsicle was always banana.

That would stop them from freezing, silly. Just pour it all into a
glass (Watermelon-tini? Ugh.)

Depends on the ratio of vodka to other liquid. Vodka is usually 80 proof or
40% alcohol. Mixed not sure of the ratio necessary.

80 proof in my freezer gets pretty thick/syrupy. I've poured a goodly
amount of Crystal Palace into a 20 ounce glass filled with a dozen ice
cubes and added like 4 ounces of grapefruit juice... sometimes it was
my second or third and I didn't drink but a few sips from that fresh
one before I realized it was past 11 PM and I just had to crawl into
bed. Those glasses came with plastic snap on lids so rather than
waste it I'd snap on a lid and pop it into the freezer... next morning
it was rock solid.... and there would be a good 6 ounces of 80 proof
in there... would take like 8 hours in the fridge before it was half
defrosted and drinkable. Now some dwarf is gonna blurt out how you
can't waste Crystal Palace. LOL

Great idea! I have to come up with something to make for a cookout the
weekend after next and this just might be what I'm doing. Love it! Can't
wait to hear the results.

I made a granita out of half of a huge seedless watermelon yesterday. I
always put a little bit of vodka in granita as it keeps it from freezing
too hard. The local pickup truck melons are to die for this year.
Extremely heavy for their size and very sweet. I used just a little
Splenda and the juice of a couple of key limes. Came out great.

The taste test -- from my boys who are in the backyard eating them at
this very moment -- they like them! The popsicles are a little
cloying to my taste, but Max and Whit are enjoying them. It was a
good way to turn the end of a tired watermelon into healthy summer
snacks.
