Anyone else have this happen? Firefox just goes "Redirecting..." over
and over and over, but never gets here now. I'm using Internet Exploder to get here now. John Kuthe... |

Ever since I started using Firefox it happens to me off and on. The only way I can't get out of it is to reboot my modem. |

You could try using Google Chrome. That browser has a nifty feature where you can create apps out of web page making your access to Google Groups a single click process. Cloud computing, here we come! I don't do that myself. Instead I open the browser and click on one of the most-used site thumbnails. This is a feature that the other browsers will have in the future. |

I never changed my FF settings. What setting to you suggest I check? I've got my FF set to "No proxy", which was a problem my father had recently when some malware tried setting his FF proxy to something. John Kuthe... |

That's why you check. If you suspect malware is the problem, then run a malware detection program and find out. There are plenty of free ones out there. I use AdAware and CCleaner. Sky uses Malwarebytes (which found something the other two didn't find for me one time). After you use that, run a registry booster. I certainly can't tell you why your copy of FF is doing what it's doing. You asked if anyone else was having trouble with their update and I am not. I can tell you how I'd troubleshoot. First I'd reboot my computer, which fixes most problems with no further monkeying around. Then I would open IE and FF and compare their settings. If everything matched, then I'd run AdAware and CCleaner (I have antivirus installed, which runs daily). After that, I'd fix my registry. If non of that worked, I'd reinstall Firefox. I don't even know if you're using a desktop or laptop. Lately, my netbook occasionally deselects the internet. Mostly it's after hibernation or a shutdown, but sometimes I'm in the middle of doing something.... I have no idea why it happens, but it does and it's not due to a virus or malware. I just reselect my wireless connection and I'm good to go. It seemed to be better after I fixed the registry, so hopefully that problem is history now. -- Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get. |

Clearing the cookies is different than clearing the cache (unless you clear EVERYTHING which will include your log-ins, etc.). Ask for help if unclear. It's not hard, but it's not quite the same thing. |

No, just go into Tools, Options, Privacy, and then in the top box (History) click on the 'Firefox will'.... (in the drop down menu, select) Use custom settings for history........ which will bring up some more options. One of those on the right is Show Cookies. In the top Find bar, type in Google. The cookies normally don't present any problem, so I will leave them set as is. But it was good of Peter to tell me (us?) where Firefox hides it's cookies and cache. I could not find them at first. It clears cookies when you close the program. The problem with clearing cookie when reading through google groups is google stores your group preferences in the cookies. Every time the cookies are cleared every subscribed group goes back to the default behavior. I have to set each group to view-as-a-tree and so on again. That's a lot of extra work using google as my secondary newsreader. It was far too much work when I travelled enough to use it as my primary reader. |
