Toots? Toots?

It's been a long time since I've heard toots.

Happy birthday Jam Lady.

Oh, my Alex!! How ever did you find out!!?
LOL! Thanks, Ginny.

OB food: Some incredibly delicious pesto on vermicelli last night for
my supper. Two cloves garlic, handsful of basil and parsley, olive oil,
buzzed with the stick blender in a tall narrow container; toasted
walnuts and parmesan blended in at the last. A little kosher salt.
Sweet Jesus, was it good! Whoa!

OB smart-ass preserving remark: LOL! Smoothie yesterday afternoon with
a browning banana, yogurt, jam (mostly red, one purple) from jars with
only a little left in them (okay, one has a lot left in it. . . ), ice
cubes. Rather sweet (from the jams) but delicious and refreshing.
Gotta get La Kid into those.

Thanks!
Did you catch my remark about the Maid-Rites last weekend? We hit a
real spot on the way back - Exit 127, I think, off I-80 outside
DesMoines. We ordered the ones with the soggy bun. :-) Loved 'em
that time. The first (on Friday) were posers.

Nah, jelly is too expensive to use as a weapon. She might strangle you

Ditto. Happy B-day, Barb!

(I hope it's an *empty* jelly jar - shame to waste good jelly!)

Thanks, Dan. You know, I always liked your old sig line -- I think it
went something like, "Whatever you wish for me, I wish you double."

OB Food: 15 pounds of strawberries await me and my berry huller. The
last of the picking at the berry patch.

Waal haaal, I missed the part about you funding it!

OB Food: Since we canceled dinner at fancy schmancy, I think we're
going for wings at Hooter's -- bad weather coming and Hooter's is only
half a mile from us.

Growing up is overrated, Judith.

OB Food: Not only do I have strawberries to "deal with," I have about
5# of apricots that are almost screaming at me to make jam with them.
The beat goes on.

Thanks, Jon.
OB Food: This afternoon or evening's smoothie will not include jam -
just strawberries, yogurt, and maybe a banana; plus ice. My poor
blender's getting a workout.

Mercy! Better a tart than an old prune, I suppose. :-)
OB Food: Max, the guy I like to shop with at the farmers market, asked
me if I'd make Pickled Boiled Dirt Chunks for him if he gives me the
stuff. Ugh. How can I turn him down? I can't. I've got a couple jars
of them from last year and/or the year before that I'll bring him
tomorrow.

Ah. That explains it. That's a 'spam trap' address. Never look at it. Just
use webmaster (at) recfoodcooking (dot) com - that usually works fine.

On June 25, celebrating 65 years of joy and wonder. I got the joy
while everyone else wondered.
Shop early and shop often. Good gin and cheap chocolate preferred.
Or cash. :-)

The only ways of preserving I know are with salt, sugar, or vinegar/
lactic acid. And calling Barb "acid" or "vinegary" didn't seem very
birthdayish, so I picked "tart."

Thanks, Janet.
OB Food: Deviled eggs. They were good - haven't made them in a while.
Green onion, a little this, a little that, mayo, a little honey because
I couldn't get to the sugar bowl. Used a plastic freezer bag to squeeze
the filling into the white.
