Default Oh, My Goodness - It's Sooo Good!

I'm hopping on the bandwagon late, but if you haven't tried it - grill
some fruit this summer! I bought peaches that were too hard and cut
into one before I realized they needed more time to ripen, so I cut it
into thick slices, painted it with EVOO and threw it on the grill as I
was cooking the lamb chops tonight. It's a do over for sure. Delish!

The lamb chops were marinated in a mixture of finely chopped fresh
rosemary, finely chopped fresh garlic, salt, pepper, EVOO and fresh
lemon juice.

Hm, I scored some peaches this morning from a friend from her tree. :-)
I may have to try that!

Use the firmest ones for grilling, you don't want them to fall apart.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

I sometimes fry fruit with eggs. It works well for pome fruits; good
results with both overripe and underripe ones. Also works with
bananas. Doesn't work well for me with citrus fruits.

I want to try bananas soon. Have you grilled pineapple yet?

I was amazed at how well peaches and black pepper go together.

Oooh, you should if you like pineapple! It's wonderful, especially if
you let it go until it has some nice charring round the sides. A
couple of years ago, as an experiment, I grilled some large chunks until
they were mostly done and then threaded them on skewers with some 2 day
old, hard as rocks brownie chunks (about 1" square) and stuck them back
on the grill for a couple of minutes. Very yummy. And the brownies
softened up well. I've also done peaches, like the OP, and a pear
(sorry - don't remember the variety... yellow skin and quite soft for a
pear, if that helps) and lychee skewer, both served with some crème
fraiche mixed with vanilla seeds and a little brown sugar. Grilled
cantaloupe is nice, too.

I've been trying to decide what to do for this summer's barbecue...
might go with pineapple again, since it's been a while.

Grilled pineapple is really good. I've not tried banana yet.
Will you skewer it or slice it on to a veggie grilling pan?

I've posted a Parsi recipe for spiced bananas with eggs here before. It's
very good.

I grill pineapple often, usually put a bit of brown sugar and sometimes
orange marmalade on it first. Wonderful!

My brewing mentor brews a killer IPA beer that has an aftertaste
EXACTLY like peaches that have been carmelized. Carmelized canned
cling peach halves, to be precise. This is very weird, as I've never
eaten carmelized canned cling peach halves. Perhaps I'll grill some
canned cling peach halves to see if my prescient perceptions are on
target.

Does canned work? I've got a buncha canned pineapple slices looking
for a mission.

You could probably make canned work but I suspect it wouldn't have the
natural sweetness of the fresh pineapple.

In a previous thread I mentioned grilled peaches. I should have read
ahead! lol Sounds like a wonderful meal.

If we read ahead instead of replying as topics arise we wouldn't reply
(or at least I wouldn't). I'd rather participate than lurk and I
assume you feel the same way.

Thanks, it certainly was! I served leftover commercial couscous salad
on the side that I had extended with frozen corn (thawed) and fresh
lemon juice.

I did that last year, then served it over ice cream. Even my MIL
raved!

I slice them in half lengthwise, grill them on the banana side for a minute
or two, them flip them onto the skin side for ~5 minutes. They kind of
half-melt in the skins and taste great.

Thanks. I didn't think about leaving the skin on, I would have done
it entirely nekkid. I think of skin on as a plantain thing.

Good tip! I was not aware of grilling them with the skins on. I have
one of those hole-y veggie grill pans.

Thanks!

Neat! Dad is a major banana lover so I will have to try this, but with
just a hackberry fire as that stuff is very neutral.

No mesquite. <g>

I'm betting that halved apples would be good for grilling too.
