When you live alone and most of your cooking is for one, you don't often
have all of these ingredients on hand. So after I'd put away today's
delivery from Pea Pod, I realized that I had:

a fresh loaf of PF sandwich bread,
a new package of bacon,
some crisp iceberg lettuce,
a very ripe tomato and, of course,
a jar of Hellman's mayonnaise.

It wasn't a Big Ol' BLT, but it sure made a hell of a nice lunch.

So simple and so good. How is your new hip doing, Felice? It's been a
little over 3 months, now.

Thank for asking, Becca. It's good as new and I'm taking it to Iceland on
July 27! And I've booked a fall date for the other hip, which is starting to
get crabby because IT didn't get all that attention.

Advice to anyone considering hip replacements: do it now!

Still sounds like a Big Ol' BLT to me, no matter how it's put together,
eh?! It's the parts that count! Good haul.

Let's call it an AUTUMN date. We don't want you falling.

Sounds perfect. I can't wait for local tomatoes to be available.

I'd settle for just about any BLT just about now. Hmmm. I will
be near some farmstands today--IF I don't hear that I need to do
something immediately.

Nothing slows you down, not even that shiny new hip. Have a wonderful
time in Iceland, then come back and tell us all about it.

Pepperidge Farm. Boring, but essential for a BLT, to my mind!

Oh. I wasn't thinking about brand names. On the subject, I recently
tried Trader Joe's "organic multigrain artisan sandwich bread" in
spite of the name's having words I often sneer at and darned if it
doesn't turn out to taste good and toast up well. I'm a day short of
picking the first Brandywine tomato of the year, so it'll be a BLT
tomorrow for sure. -aem

A ripe Brandywine from your own crop? Your cup runneth amok!

Will your BLT be served on TJ'sOMASB?

I don't know. I might make bread tonight (dough in the fridge), or I
might go get a sourdough loaf. That's my actual preference for BLT.
Will pick up an avocado for a future BLTA, too. -aem

Now that's a variation I think would work.
