After learning that my dad has all their music on LP (the records I grew up on), he begged us to find a way to play them. I dragged out my old dusty Technics turntable (state-of-the-art when new), borrowed two speakers and an amp, and a week later I still can't get them hooked up! This technology is obsolete for very good reasons! |

I have an old Dual turntable atop the stereo cabinet. The Shure > stylus must be 30 or more years old! I've got an old Accutrac turntable with the same problem, And more too! Like the strobe light is out, and the speed adjuster is flaky as hell! Bryan offered me his turntable that converts LPs to MP3's when I was over the other day, but I had ridden my bicycle and didn't feel it was prudent to carry the turntable home on my bicycle. Plus it's just not a project I want to get into right now. John Kuthe... |

Don't feel bad. I'm still trying to find away to pump my old vinyl thru the Bose, using my old turntable. Need a pre-amp, I think, but have no idea what kind to buy. So, the project sits on the back burner. My other half is no help!! |

Something like: http://www.google.com/products?q=ria...title&resnum=3 (http://tinyurl.com/2vrycqp) I'm amazed at the rip-off prices though, seems $50 is about the average price for putting $5-$10 worth of components in a box.... -j |

I have an Ion cassette desk that came with a USB interface and MP3 conversion software to rip my cassettes onto disk. At Target and in the Sky Mall catalog I have seen a similar device that is a recorder player. I have also seen a combination record player and cassette deck with the same USB interface and software. The software is rather trivial. You turn the record on an off manually so you have to be there as the cassette/record plays. There's no way to enter the time to automatically stop. I wasn't ****ed at having to listen to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone over again but it sure took a long time. We no longer have any vinyl albums at all. We still have plenty of audio cassettes and VHS tapes. |
