Is this concoction called Chili just because it has chili powder in
it?

Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.

You will have to take that up with the Skyline Chili company. They
have been in business in Cincinnati area over 50 years now.

Chili is a stew, prepared using some cut of meat (although there are some
recipes that are vegetarian), spiced using an assortment of peppers or
chili powder. Sometimes chili will contain tomatoes, beans, and other
assorted spices.

Ultimately I supposed it's called chili because its inventor called it
that. There's no patent on the word and that's fine. I've had a
Mexican family recipe for chili that was less like Stagg than this
Cincinnati recipe and it was also just fine. It's a broad class of
recipes that some folks like to define more narrowly for themselves.
