I lived in Cincinnati for five years. The first time I tried
Cincinnati Chili I didn't like it, and I had to eat it 3 or 4 times before I grew to enjoy it. I forced myself to keep going back and it grew on me. I still have a couple packs of Skyline CC mix in the kitchen, which you just mix with ground beef and water and add the spaghetti, beans, cheese, onions, both Skyline and Gold Star (the two big CC chains in Cincinnati) are very secret about their recipes, but the stuff in the packet tastes just like what I would get when I ate there. Never tried to make it from scratch, but from everything I heard it isn't Cincinnati Chili without the Cocoa and Cinnamon. And to make CC authentic, it has to be served with oyster crackers on the side and a couple of those little York Peppermint Patties for dessert. |
