Who sells America's unhealthiest fast foods?

Quiznos Tuna Melt - unhealthier even than something called a Triple
Baconator.

* Men's Health lists unhealthiest meals
* Triple Baconator not the worst
* Tuna Melt tops 1600 calories

THE Top 10 fast-food restaurants in the US boast entrees loaded with
stomach-stuffing, artery-clogging saturated fat, sodium and calories,
according to a study by Men's Health magazine.

"Fast food requires fast decisions, and we wanted to create a guide to
help people lose weight while still eating fast food," said David
Zinczenko, author of the book series Eat This! Not That! and editor-in-
chief of the magazine that conducted the study.

Topping the list as the worst of the worst was the Tuna Melt sandwich
combo from Quiznos.

The value meal, which comes with a bag of Cheetos, tops out at an
astonishing 1900 calories - the equivalent of eating an entire bag of
Chips Ahoy! cookies and near the average person's daily caloric intake,
the study noted.

Second on the list was the Triple Baconator Value Meal from Wendy's.

The sandwich, which has three hamburger patties, three slices of cheese
and nine strips of bacon, packs a 1850-calorie punch when paired with a
small Coke and fries.

Other offenders include the large Triple Whopper with Cheese Value Meal,
which weighs in at nearly 1800 calories and the Big Breakfast Platter from
McDonald's, which contains 1370 calories and nearly 65 grams of fat.

The good news, the study suggested, is that you do not have to stop eating
fast food altogether - you just have to make smarter choices.

"Once people have an understanding of the caloric calamities out there,
they can make better choices and still have burgers," Mr Zinczenko said.

Mr Zinczenko recommended an Egg McMuffin and hash browns, which tally only
450 calories and 21 grams of fat.

What does he recommend for lunch?

I predict the result of his article to be a surge in sales of Quiznos
tuna melts.

Thank you, thank you thank you. I do not know how I could have continued my
life without this information.

You have no idea of the dimensions of my gratitude.

Men's Health runs this and similar stories every year.

Thank goodness for Mr. Zinczenko, because the words "Triple" and "Big
Platter" in those dishes' titles gave no clue regarding their caloric
content. (I would never order a "Tuna Melt" from anywhere, so although
surprising, the Quizno warning was not needed.)

If you notice what is in common for the items (note plural) above, is
that they are all "packages". A lot of those excess calories and fat,
are not in the item listed, but the "sides". So get that burger, but
don't get a "supersize" fries and drink for each person. Get one order
of fries, and drink water with it. Oftentimes, the "meal deal" or
"value meal" is neither. It's a lot of empty calories for a lot of
extra money. When was the last time you saw a side salad as part of a
"deal"?

The other thing I have been horrified to note, is that although fast
food is still really fast, in most cases, it is often no longer cheap.
If you don't watch the prices, you can often spend as much for a meal at
one of those places as you could for a real meal at a real restaurant,
if you watch for the lunch specials at your local restaurants (that's
true where I live, anyway).
