My Pictures Aren't As Good As Da Sqwertz

But he did inspire a pretty damn good meal.

Friday's chicken stew picture looked so good I new I had to do
something. Money has landed here since but at the time we had nine
dollar to last a week unless we went to charge cards so I had to do
something with what was in the larder.

No dark chicken meat but I had breasts. No fancy peppers but I has a
red bell. No leek but I had a red onion. I did the best I could with
what I had.

I used a powdered soup base and got a pot of that going while I sauted
these in olive oil and pepper. I didn't use salt because the base has
enough in it for my taste.

Radish
carrot
onion
garlic
red bell pepper
celery

That went in the pot and I fried up 3 good sized cubed chicken breasts
in a chicken rub seasoning by Baladna. It says:
garlic, basil, paprika, oregano, salt, (mystery) spices. I used a lot
because I didn't plan on using any other spicing.

The chicken went on the pot and we like noodles in our soup so I added
a partial bag of rottini we had.

It was delicious for a door-knock dinner. If you look at the picture
you'll see a pile of serrannos on my bowl. They're from my forgotten
giardiniera experiment and have been in vinegar and salt for 10 weeks.
Absolutely friggin delicious and a perfect condiment.

Anyway, Thanks for the inspiration Steve. Everyone here should be
aware you never know who you might inspire by what you post.

Dang, you guys are really cooking up a storm.
Thanks Lou for sharing your story behind the stew. That's some great
photography also.

Exactly. Thanks for the confirmation. I don't get a lot of feedback on
some of my more hardcore food articles I post here, such as the making of
nuoc mau and mam nem (most recently), or my ginger ale drink and lamb
confit (nobody even touched those threads). But I figure I plant seeds and
if one person tries it, or it inspires something related or not, then it's
worth it.

Koko gets a lot more feedback on her posts than I, but I figure she has a
nicer online persona then I and draws more affection than people would like
to express towards me :-) I can live with that.

Most of my photos are not that great. I click a few quick pictures and
post them in alt.binaries.food. And I've said numerous times that they're
there for inspiration, not for a photography class or a photo contest.
Though many of the people there (and here) don't take food as seriously as
I do, or may not be into the same kinds of foods.

And that's the major reason I read RFC and ABF - for my own inspiration.
Or at least that's why I started reading RFC way back when (now I'm not
quite sure ;-) I've often seen particular posts and 3 minutes later I'm
downstairs in the kitchen. Or shopping for something in particular the
next day.

:-)

A new camera should be in my mailbox tomorrow. I've been using the same
5MP Nikon for about 4 years now. It takes great pictures in the right
environment, but it was hard to pass up last Monday's Woot offer for a
12-megapixel Kodak for $40 that got good reviews. It's still only 3X, but
the added pixels will make for a better virtual zoom (If I need it).

I need a better camera. But thanks. It was tasty.

Looks good and probably was delicious but that doesn't resemble the
rotini I get .... -aem

I agree on both counts with aem; the soup/stew looked great! But the noodles
I've seen labeled rotini (or rotelli) look more like this:

I'd like to think most of us read here because cooking is a passion
for us. I'm not a skilled cook so I probably take more than I give so
it's important to thank those who have inspired me.

<snip randomly>

Even if it's over my head or something I'm not interested in you still
establish yourself as a cook and not like some of the nutjobs that
post here.

Her online persona is great. Who knows why some threads go on for
weeks and some never get even one reply. It is nice to know your
posts are being read.

>Most of my photos are not that great.

Most are better than mine. I'm using a 15 dollar garage sale camera.

Yep.

Same here. I do try to remember to thank those who got me going.

Sounds like a sweet deal. I need a better camera mainly for work but
it would be nice for food pictures too. Most of what I take has to be
done fast and the time between pictures kills me. I did a job
yesterday morning with "no contact" instructions. The homeowner
caught me and trying to get 6 pictures of the house while he was
inside waving his arms and obviously calling the police wasn't fun
while I was waiting for 5 seconds between pictures. I don't have the
cash now but I'll be looking for something faster.

<shrug> I dunno what to say. I think it was some generic cheap stuff
that might have loosened up as it cooked or I grabbed something else.
I see it does look more like egg noodles.

Yeah. I dunno what I did or what happened and I'm not gonna make
something up. I was good whatever it was though.
